Summary: I thought you were gone, yet you were right there, weren't you?
One-shot fic...no names. Explanation at the end.

I thought for so long that you were gone, but I see you're not.
You've been here all along, haven't you?
All those days I cried over you, tried to convince myself it wasn't real…and yet you were right before me, living through him.
He would smile and it was yours.
His laugh? Yours.
His profession of choice? Who else's.
I don't know why I didn't see it when you first left, why it took me this long.
I….I try not to cry when he does it. When he…acts just like you.
How long has it been?
Long enough.
When I see his shadow, I mistake it for yours.
That sarcastic "yeah right" look he loves so much?
All you.
And of course, he can't find her either. But…she's right before him, and he doesn't notice.
I wonder, should I tell him? I know what you would've said.
You'd have told me to let the kid find it himself-it'll teach him a lesson about something or other.
He…tries not to give away his secret. But I know. I always have.
I always knew all of your secrets.
Of course, it's their fault.
They do it all and they'll never give up until they see him dead.
I love you, and I love him too…I won't lose him like I lost you to them.
If only he found her, then he'd stop his ridiculously dangerous pastimes. Wouldn't he?
Ha. You wouldn't have.
Damn it, you left me alone because of her!
Is she more important than me?
I watch him leave for school-he meets up with his best friend.
Remember how I was your best friend?
They remind me of us.
And I'm alone. It's not like there's someone else to comfort me. Just him.
As I look out the window, I see it so clearly: you and me.
I walk into the living room and open the old box that looks very out of place sitting on a shelf. I open it.
She is not forever. So what was the purpose of it all?
I throw the box to the side, and it hits the wall with a satisfying crunch.
I pick up its contents from the shelf where I placed them and toss them to the floor too.
Ha. She lives up to her name, doesn't she? She is chaos incarnate.
I step around her and walk to the box, smashed on the floor.
There is nothing at the bottom of the box.

Thought it was Ran, eh? Nope.
Here's the explanation:
"I"->Kuroba
"You"->Toichi
"He"->Kaito
"She"#1->Pandora
"She"#2->Aoko
"They"->Black Org.
The last lines refer to the legend that in Pandora's box was sorrow. However, at the bottom of the box there was apparently hope. Put it together.
Sorry if it was OOC, but Kuroba had to have mourned and talked to Toichi's ghost at one point, right?
