I really hope that this comes off as funny and not morbid. If it seems weird, then just remember that it's from the POV of a dog. Benny's dog.

Please review when you're done! It'll make me super duper happy! (That was corny)

I don't own RENT.

THUMP. BAM BAM. THUMPY THUMP BANG. BAM.

There's a funny sound coming up through the open window. I wonder what it it could be.

It sounds like hundreds of people walking at exactly the same time, except that it sounds even louder than that. And it's much faster. And it's only one sound. Not hundreds.

I think that I'll bark at it.

I like to bark. At anything. And everything. After all, if Benny was your owner, wouldn't you? I mean, he's so boring, he never plays catch with me, and he and Alison hardly even pet me. So, I have to find some way to entertain myself. Hence the barking.

BANG THUMPY DUM. BAM THUMP.

I don't think that I really mind this sound that's coming from the sidewalk. I supposed that it could even be considered quite pleasant. Especially when I bark along with it. Then it sounds even better.

THUMPY. BANG DUM. BAM THUMP. THUMP.

I just wish that the sound wasn't so loud. I guess that it's just a tiny bit annoying. But, oh well, I'm sure that it will go away soon.

Like now.

BAM. THUMP.

Or now.

THUMPITY BANG.

Ok, now the sound isn't going away. But that's all right. Maybe if I bark louder, it will go away faster. That's true with most things that I bark at.

THUMPITY BANG. BAM THUMP. DUM. BAM THUMP.

Alright, I'm barking louder, but the sound's not going away. If anything, I think that it just got louder too. Maybe it's my echo. So if I stop barking, it'll stop too.

THUMPY. THUMP.

I've stopped barking. The sound is still there. So now I'm back to barking.

I admit it. This has gotten to be more than just a tiny bit annoying. It's a lot more annoying.

No, it's more than a lot more annoying. It's— well, I'm not sure, but it is definitely more than a lot more annoying.

BAM BANG. DUM. THUMPY BAM.

It won't stop. WHY WON'T IT STOP?

I can't think.

Sound— so loud, so persistent, won't go away, won't stop, won't pause.

THUMPY. THUMP THUMP. BAM BUM THUMPY.

Can't think— must find quiet, must find rest, must find end.

Window, open, bad.

Sidewalk below window. Sound on sidewalk. Sound bad.

THUMP. BUM DUM DUM. BAM BAM. THUMPY THUMP.

Other window good. Courtyard. No sound. No noise. Quiet. Rest.

No. Courtyard bad. Too far. Long way down.

THUMP THUMP. THUMP DUM DUM THUMPY.

No. Courtyard good. Only way out. Must get out. Must get away from noise. Noise must end.

Good window close. Courtyard below window. Must jump.

THUMPY BAM BAM DUM BANG THUMPITY.

No. Can't jump. Too far. Scared of heights.

Must jump. Only way. Only way to have quiet. Only way to end sound.

BANG DUM BAM THUMPITY. THUMP.

No. Heights bad.

Have to jump. Must jump.

So close to good window. So close to quiet.

Jump. Jump now.

No. Scared. Feeling vertigo.

MUST JUMP.

Jumping……

(Drumming stops)
