A/N: I didn't know how else to separate the stanzas so you'll have to read in a jagged line. Just follow the Z pattern. This poem is an AU poem and it tells the story of one of my favorite couples in Fruits Basket. It's special to me because it's about just an ordinary girl...yet she never stops believing in her dream. I had one couple in mind when I wrote this poem, but please review and tell me who YOU think this poem is talking about. That will also give me some suggestions to get me started on my next one. So yeah...please read and don't be mean because this is my first poem.
Just a Simple Love Story
She was nothing special
No beauty, no charm.
But she had a dream
---Just a simple dream.
He was everything
Handsome, (and really rich)
But his heart was ice
---Nothing but ice.
So yeah, they met
In the cliché way
On a walk in the park
---Just a simple walk.
Her umbrella flew away
And then all she had
Was the chilling ran soaking in
---Nothing but rain.
He saw her
Huddled in a little ball
Underneath a tree
---Just a simple tree.
She wept with the skies
Because no hope was left for her dream
Only weariness
---Nothing but weariness.
He smiled for the first time
At the pathetic image
Of a girl
---Just a simple girl.
She looked up
Into the eyes of her dream come true
But she whispered, "It's just a dream."
---Nothing but a dream.
He took her home
And she came to live for
His beautiful smile
---Just a simple smile.
He did not understand
How she could look at him
And see hope
---Nothing but hope.
She worried daily
About her clumsy hands
And ordinary face
---Just a simple face.
He escaped to the arms
Of other girls
Who offered perfection to him
---Nothing but perfection.
She watched as he left
Day by day
With a hasty wave
---Just a simple wave.
He longed to ask her
Why her tears
Shattered his heart into pieces
---Nothing but pieces.
She knew it was hopeless
And so she left
Only a note
---Just a simple note.
He tired of their hollow laughs
And dreamt of her
And her eyes full of truth
---Nothing but truth.
She walked to the tree
Where it had all begun
And made a prayer of thanks
---Just a simple prayer.
He found his home
Had become an icy palace again
Ringing with echoes
---Nothing but echoes.
"Dearest Lord,
I thank you for your grace
And the joy you have given me"
---Just a simple joy.
And so he ran
His mind filled with thousands of pictures
All of her
---Nothing but her.
For the first time
Fear gripped his heart
Until he heard her voice
---Just a simple voice.
"It's been painful, sure
But I know that I can say
With certainty
---Nothing but certainty.
I will live the rest of my life
With joy
Because of one day
---Just a simple day.
The day he found me
Was the day I knew
That your promises are true."
---Nothing but true.
Tears streamed down his face
And then he stooped next to her
To give her a kiss
---Just a simple kiss.
She did not want to open her eyes
Afraid that upon opening them
She would find air
---Nothing but air.
Yet he held her tightly on and on
So she opened her eyes…
And there ends their story
---Just a simple love story.
