Shall I Lie Awake?

My name is Caedman, an outcast to my people and land, for reasons I do not know. Is it because I was the youngest, troublesome prince of the Gugaian race? Or was it because I was different, different from all the others. For I am a mixed blood, my dear mother, Baith, was a common boa constrictor and my father a white viper. My siblings were not born with the white hair and the blue-green eyes of the viper, but the golden blonde hair and brown eyes of my mother's mate, the python and ruler of the Gugaian race, King Jkash.

I do not know the name of my true father, or from whence he came or even where he is now, but I am determined to learn all I can. So I left that night, so many months ago. I left my place of birth, my mother; I left behind my siblings and my way of life. I am a loner now, following the stars and my heart. I have only a couple rations left in my pack and am almost out of water. I have heard of a safe-haven, Wyvern's Court, where their queen, an avian hawk, and king, a Cobriana cobra's own daughter the apparently stunning princess, Oliza, is a mixed blood as well. A wyvern.

I am weak from my travels tonight, but I will continue tomorrow for Wyvern's Court. Now I find myself in a forest the sunset light stabbing through the trees, and wonder if I should travel farther or rest here and continue on. But that would mean succumbing to my dreams that seem reality. I have been having these dreams since I began to get closer and closer to Wyvern's Court. They depict soft golden eyes and wings of black with specks of red and gold, and the joys of flight. Oh bless Kiesha, they're beautiful dreams, but I must tell myself they'll never be.

Unless the gods have other plans…
