I own nothing. Jonathan Larson owns everything!
Angel was breathing slowly. Her eyes kept fluttering open and closed. Collins held her in his arms. He silently stroked her sort hair.
Angel's weak high pitched voice broke the silence. "Collins?"
Collins looked at her quickly. "Yes, baby?"
"Promise me something." She turned her head to face him.
Collins gave her a soft smile. "Anything for you." he said quietly.
Angel tried and failed to sit up. Collins helped her lean against the pillows and he looked at her. "Promise you'll find someone...else once I'm gone?"
Collins stared at her. Was she serious? "Ang, are you kidding me? You know I could never do that. How could I ever love anyone else as much as you."
Tears began to form in Angel's eyes. "But I want you to be happy."
Collins grabbed her hands and kneeled in front of her. "I have been happy since December 24th. These past few months have been the best of my life. I have never loved until I met you. I have been the happiest man alive and it's enough to last me forever."
Angel began to cry. "But Collins you'll be lonely and you should be with someone."
Collins shook his head. "No. I can't bear to think of myself with another person."
Angel relaxed a little. "Will you promise me that you'll remember me?"
Collins laughed slightly. "I couldn't forget you even if I wanted to." He climbed back onto the bed and held Angel in his arms.
"I love you." Angel whispered.
Collins kissed the top of her head. "I love you, too, Angel. Only you."
After moments of silence Collins asked , "Angel, can you promise me something?"
"You know I can, lover." she said happily and then coughed into her hand. Collins rubbed her back lovingly.
"Promise me you'll wait for me in heaven?"
Angel smiled at him. "I promise."
