Jet glanced at the machine suspiciously. "What the hell is that?"
After making sure it was plugged in, Francoise stood up and smoothed out her skirt. "Come on, Jet. You spend your time surrounded by some of the most advanced technology ever created. Don't tell you've never seen a radio-cassette player before."
The look on his face didn't change. "We didn't have that when I was growing up. What's it supposed to do?"
Francoise rolled her eyes. One of these days he was going to have to deal with the fact he wasn't living in 1963 anymore. "It's simple. You can put a cassette tape in, and it'll play the music or whatever's on it. You can, uh, also record sound with it. If you want."
He caught on immediately. "Oh, no. No. You may have caught me kissing Heinrich that one time--"
"Five times." She decided not to add in the times that she accidentally caught them thanks to her radar powers.
"Five times, but I am not going to play my harmonica for some stupid birthday present just because you think it'd cute."
"But he'll like it!" Francoise tugged on his arm, trying to get her point across. "Remember that night when the ten of us went to the beach and Joe got you to play? He was positively enthralled."
"... You really mean that?"
"If it hadn't been for you, he probably would've spent the entire night by himself listening to the sound of waves."
She was right, flattery was definitely the way to go when dealing with Jet Link. "Well... all right. If it'll make Heinrich happy." He took the harmonica out of his jean pocket. "When should I start playing?"
"Right..." Francoise hit the record button. "Now."
Jet brought the instrument to his lips and began to play.
He'd only gotten a few notes in when Francoise turned it off.
"Jet?"
"Yes?"
The disdain in her voice was almost palpable. "Could you try playing something that isn't a funeral march?"
