Kitchen Rendezvous

Lorelai was trying balance her purse, the mail, and open the front door, as Miss Patty started heading towards her.

She sighed, stressed, and offered a grin. "Hey, Patty. How's it going?"

Miss Patty smiled. "Good, good, dear. But I was wondering if I could borrow some eggs?"

Lorelai laughed. "Have you met us, Patty? I doubt we have any, but come on in and I'll check."

"Thanks, honey."

Lorelai managed to get the door opened and let Patty through. "Let me go set this down in here, one second," Lorelai called.

Patty nodded and moved towards the kitchen door. Lorelai joined her a second later, but they paused when they heard a voice and some shuffling.

"Jess," Rory gasped. "You're gonna make me…Ah!"

Miss Patty looked to Lorelai, eyebrow arched.

Lorelai frowned, confused. They crouched still by the door for a little while longer.

A minute later, Rory spoke again.

"You got it everywhere…the entire kitchen is now redecorated in white," she cried exasperatedly.

"Hey, it's you fault, not mine," Jess returned. "You caused this mess."

Miss Patty turned to a shocked Lorelai. "You think…?"

Lorelai shrugged, wide-eyed, "I hope not." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "It's probably totally innocent and we're getting worked up over nothing," she reasoned. "It's nothing".

"Hey, Jess; help me find my…ah, got it. Help me put it back on? Please?" Lorelai could hear her pout from the next room.

She groaned. "Or maybe not."

They heard some shifting and a bang. "What was that?" Lorelai whispered.

Patty shook her head. "I'm not sure, honey. But it sounds like…"

She was interrupted by another crash. "Jeez," Patty muttered. "I'd like to be in there."

Lorelai glared.

They turned back to the door and pressed their ears warily against it.

"Oh, wow…is it supposed to be this hard?"

Jess chuckled. "It depends."

"You know, my third husband had a fetish for doing it in kitchens. Maybe Jess, too…he does work in a diner."

Lorelai cringed at Patty's words. She shook her head and collapsed on the floor. She didn't want to hear any more.

Lorelai's eyes widened as she heard a smacking sound. "Wha…?"

"Ew, is it supposed to be this salty?" Rory coughed.

Patty's jaw dropped. "Rory's definitely not as innocent as we all thought."

Lorelai had resorted to putting her hands over her ears and humming.

Patty was still interested; like a train wreck you just had to stay and watch. She stuck her head closer and listened.

Rory's voice carried loudly through the house. "It smells funny in here," she said.

"It usually does after doing this."

"Hey, I've never done this before…you have."

Jess laughed. "That I can tell."

Lorelai clenched her teeth together and screamed quietly. "I can't take this anymore," she announced. "I'm going in."

She threw her hands over her eyes and pushed the door open. "I can't believe you guys would do this in here…where anyone could just walk in…and we eat in here, Rory!"

Instead of the frantic shuffling she assumed she'd hear; the only sound was someone clearing their throat. She heard Jess whispering to her daughter.

"I think your Mom finally lost it."

Rory grinned, bemused. "I think I may have to agree with you there."

She slowly walked towards Lorelai. "Mom…" she prodded. "Why do you have your hand over your eyes?"

Lorelai scoffed. "Why do I have…? Rory…aren't you and Jess…" she slowly moved her fingers to peak into the kitchen.

Oh.

Jess shook his head, eyeing her cautiously. "I was teaching Rory how to bake a cake."
