The Fallen Embers

I gaze at your face, violet eyes stare back

I take your hand, so cold and stiff

Rest now and go in peace

I remember the horrid spiders, how you laughed and taunted

That is until I dumped you in the pond

Then you chased me around the castle

Maude was quite mad

I remember we once ran through the orchard

Laughing and running

Little did we know this was the end

Of our childhood days

As we said goodbye, I knew our paths had changed

So much would we grow

The gods would meddle with our lives

And we would become great

I'm sure your magic had served you well

My skills improved over the many years

There was a threat however

I sensed something wrong

The source had been your doing

Why did you let pride take over?

Thom, you knew this was dangerous

So why did you do it?

I knew someday, your magic would be your undoing

I no longer say it with a sarcastic tone, rather grave

For that was where it led you

I gaze at your face, violet eyes stare back

I take your hand, so cold and stiff

Rest now and go in peace

I watch now with a broken heart and stubborn frown

As they bless you, pureify you

Goddess! can't you see he is pure enough

Even though he's prideful, he still has a heart

They light the torch and I step forward

They turn to me, faces questioning

It is only right I say

If I do it

So I am handed the torch and step up to the pyre

My frown hides my grief and I take a moment

To take a last look and remember

My brother, my twin

I gaze at your face, violet eyes stare back

You're so cold and stiff

Rest now and go in peace

The fire warms my face and I let a few tears slip

The sparks fly up and the roar deafens me

But I will not turn away

The fire soon dies

All that is left is embers

They fall like my shoulders, suddenly heavy with a burden

They fall like my tears, stinging like hail down my cheeks

They are all that is left of you

Fallen shoulders

Fallen tears

Fallen brother

All that is now, all that is left are my memories, this time and what was left at my feet

The fallen embers...
