Lee didn't understand Uchiha Sasuke.

The boy was strong, and Lee admired that strength and wished he could duplicate it and then surpass it—though he knew that without the talent for genjutsu or the help of the Sharingan, it would be difficult to do so.

Still, he held out hope that through persistence and hard work he would be able to reach Sasuke's level. After all, Gai-sensei competed daily against Kakashi, and he had a Sharingan eye. Surely it wasn't impossible.

But there was more to Sasuke than just strength. There was a kind of loneliness there that Lee half-understood, and half-didn't because weren't there all kinds of people reaching out to Sasuke? One person in particular who Lee wished would reach out to him for once?

It appeared that Team Seven spent a large amount of time and energy trying to envelope the boy and every time they would get close, something would make him slip further away. Uchiha Sasuke was elusive, that was the problem. If it was for strength, Lee didn't see why.

After all, the whole point of strength was to be able to protect your precious people. Gai-sensei taught him that. And Lee really didn't know who Sasuke thought he was protecting by running away.

So Lee didn't understand Uchiha Sasuke, but he was going to go after him anyway, despite Tsunade's orders to rest. Because Sakura-san had been crying when the others left to retrieve him. Because Sasuke was a Konoha ninja, and you didn't leave your own stranded just because they were stupid every once in a while.

Because Lee didn't understand, and he wanted to. So he was going to go help Naruto drag Sasuke home where he belonged.

And if he couldn't, he was going to do three-thousand laps around Konoha on one hand. And then try again.
