Yes, a songfic about Thom. I wrote it to A Perfect Circle's "Thomas". Perfect name, huh? Anyway, it's about Alanna's thoughts towards her dead brother as she says good bye to him. I love Thom, why did he have to die?! *sniff* Kinda short, might be sort of stupid too, I dunno. Please read, enjoy, and review!

Thomas

The fighting was over, rebuilding had begun, and everything seemed under control. Alanna knew it was time to do the task she had been dreading. She had to put her dear twin brother, Thom, to rest.

The procession went slowly, trudging through the dust, clouds of dirt billowing up behind them, on the road towards Trebond. Alanna was completely decked out in black, for mourning; the only thing missing was the traditional veil that women usually wore, which Alanna decided not to wear. Her face could be viewed by everyone, though not many did; it was a mask of pain and misery.

A few days later, Thom's body was put into the family tomb underneath the castle of Trebond, alongside Alanna's father and mother. After all the irritating, pitying nobles had left, she stood alone in front of the slab of rock her brother was incased in, her hands balled into fists to keep them from trembling.

//praying for visions to show me the way//

She broke the silence quietly, as if trying not to disturb the peace too much.

"Why?" she asked Thom. "What happened? How did you become so arrogant, ...so sure of yourself, so prideful, so much like our father?!"

//show me the way to forgive you//

//allow me to let it go//

//allow me to be forgiven and//

//show me the way to let go//

"We promised---Don't you remember?!--- we vowed we would never become like our father! How could you, Thom? You promised me!" her voice cracked, and two hot tears silently tracked down her cheeks. Her brother had left her, the only family she had left. She could make a new family for herself, she knew, with George, but...

"I don't want to start over! What if something happens to my new family, too? I'll be just as lost as I am now. Why did you have to think you were better than everyone else?" she demanded angrily.

"I wish we hadn't switched places at all, then maybe you would've learnt to humility at the palace and still be alive!" she cried bitterly. A gentle breeze wafted through the underground chamber, softly ruffling her copper curls, as if reproaching her.

//show me the way to forgive you//

//allow me to let it go//

//allow me to be forgiven and//

//show me the way to let go//

"Okay..." she said, scuffing her feet on the well-worn tile as she had done as an impatient child. "Maybe I don't wish that, I don't know." she sighed, and more tears journeyed across her face.

//illuminate me I'm just praying//

"I'll miss you, brother. I'm going to try and live the best life I can, for the both of us. Wish me luck." she smiled faintly, and then turned and left her childhood home and headed to her new home, and to her new life.

//for you to show me where I'm to begin//

//reconnect to you//
