A Broken Heart

I sit here

In a chair, waiting to dance

No one has asked me

Yet I wait

And I remember one painful memory

That occurred a few years ago

At midnight

On this same floor

You no longer love me

You no longer kiss me

Hold me

Talk with me

The way you did

I wake from a nightmare

In which you had turned me away

Again

You had a golden band on your finger

Proclaiming your allegiance

To someone else

But I turn to you now

And find out with a breaking heart

My nightmare was real

Please I plead

Take me back

My heart lies there

On the ground

In pieces for your keeping

Why did we end up like this?

Fate is cruel

Precious time has been wasted

Why did we not see?

Were we blind to trouble?

Or just too smitten to care

I left a rose

In the hallway, outside your door

But you didn't bother to pick it up

Rather you gave it to your new love

I cried that night

Over old memories

Lost in time

I loved you

Yet you never loved me

After that night

After meeting her.

I sit here

In a chair, waiting to dance

No one has asked me

Yet I wait

Someone comes forward

Eyes sparkling and hand reaching out

I smile and am whisked off

In the sweet melody of this night

He'll love me

Like you never did

I remember one painful memory now

That occurred a few years ago

At midnight

On this same floor

At this same time

And right now, I no longer care

For I've moved on

Found someone else

And fallen in love

Soon to drown in it.

All you left me was

Weeping eyes

Raging memories

A tainted love

And a broken heart
