Title: Lullabye
Rating: K+
Summary: The Doctor sings to Rose.
Pairings: Hinted Doctor/Rose
Disclaimer:
Doctor Who belongs to the BBC. The song Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)
belongs to Billy Joel. It's one of the most beautiful songs ever, and
as soon as I heard it I thought of Doctor/Rose.
Lullabye
Rose was sound asleep in her room. The Doctor slowly walked up to her bed, sat on it, and began stroking her hair. She was so beautiful. He began to sing to her.
"Goodnight,
my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for
another day
She looked so peaceful. She was tired out. The last thing she needed was another life-threatening adventure.
I
think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've
been trying to say
All the hugs, all the handholding, all the smiles. The Doctor knew they meant more than friendship.
I
promised I would never leave you
And you should always
know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never
will be far away
The Doctor sighed. Rose was really prepared to stay with him forever. But he knew things weren't always that simple. What was important was that she never forgot him.
Goodnight,
my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want
to say
The Doctor had so much he wanted to say to Rose, but he was scared. Some things were perhaps best left unsaid.
Remember
all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald
bay
He and Rose had so much fun together. It was good to remember times like that, when they weren't running for their lives. They were so much more special and meaningful.
And
like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The
water's dark
And deep inside this ancient heart
You'll always
be a part of me
Rose was going to be with him, one way or another. There was plenty of room in his hearts for her and her love.
Goodnight,
my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your
life will be
Rose valued this life, but she could still have a good life without him. He had told her in Emergency Program I that that would be the best way to remember him.
Someday
your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your
heart
There will always be a part of me
Someday
we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on...
They never
die
That's how you
And I
Will be"
Yes, that way the love between them would truly live on. They would always be a part of one another. Even after they were long gone, their love would continue on. Satisfied, the Doctor got up. As he left, he heard Rose speak.
"Goodnight, my angel," she said.
I think the real credit for this story goes to Billy Joel. I'm just the messenger of the song.
