Her name was Hiratai.

She was born in Omashu, and was a generally average young girl. Her eyes and hair matched the rocks and earth that surrounded her, and she was perfectly fine with that. She wasn't thin, she wasn't fat. She didn't have any physical aliments.

But she wasn't pretty.

She hated this aspect of herself. Her elder sisters, Tenshi, Aikou, and Junsei, were perfection personified: their brown hair was not ratty, it was flowing, their deep eyes were not boring they were enchanting, their average bodies were not lackluster they were healthy. And little Hiratai's brown hair was ratty, her brown eyes boring, her body lackluster.

She'd heard it too many times: "Oh, look there's Tenshi, Aikou, Junsei...and Hiratai." Her name did not hold the wonderful joy that people spoke when they saw her pretty older sisters. Hiratai bottled her anger, and put on a smile for her pretty sisters and perfect parents.

Until one day, a group of Fire Nation soldiers stopped in Omashu- when it was still staying out of the war- to gather supplies. Hiratai and her sisters were shopping that day, and then men- stupid boars that they were- whistled as her sisters passed, letting out catcalls and making rude comments. And then Hiratai walked by.

"You call that dog a girl?" One of the men called out, and the other's burst out laughing. Hiratai, her bottled up anger exploding, seized a knife from a nearby table, and- with an angry scream- buried it into the man's shoulder.

The other men burst out with angry cusses, and they sent flames to her. They mostly missed, but one caught the end of her hair. She severed the burned ends of her hair from her head, and ran.

She ran so far she didn't even know where she was. Out of Omashu, as far as her feet would take her, and then she collapsed. She found herself in a clearing in the woods, and sitting on the rough ground, she fingered the knife and looked to the sky. Hiratai was no more.

Her name was Smellerbee.

A/N: Something I forgot to motion last chapter: Kashou means 'song'. For this chapter, Hiratai means 'plain' and Tenshi is 'angel', Aikou 'beauty' and Junsei is 'perfect'.
