A little steamy, but nothing that I thought required this to be in Racy Rendezvous.

Alive

It was the last place Inuyasha ever imagined they would end up. But had he been able to think more clearly right in that moment, he would have realized that it actually made perfect sense.

His back hit the rough bark of the God Tree, but he barely felt it, numb to everything else except for the soft warmth of her body pressed against his own and the pair of even softer lips urgently kissing and licking at his mouth. Inuyasha couldn't think, could barely breathe as Kagome lifted her leg and hitched it onto his hip while one of her hands found his and laced their fingers. Without thinking Inuyasha caught her thigh, fingers slipping around the soft curve of her behind and anchoring her tight against him, drawing a heated gasp from the woman in his arms and he swallowed it with a hungry growl.

His suikan, already loosened from earlier explorations, fell off his shoulders and slid to the crook of his elbows, but he paid it no mind, too lost in the taste of her, in the way she gasped and panted against him, music to his ears. Slender fingers touched his jaw, cradled his face as she drew on his lips, tongue flicking, teasing the seam and slipping inside for a deeper taste of her own. Another ragged groan welled up and with a muttered curse Inuyasha tore his mouth from hers, his breathing labored, honeyed eyes darkened to deep, burnished amber.

Lips parted as she dragged in ragged breaths, swollen and glistening from his kisses, the growl that reverberated in his chest was all kinds of male satisfaction as he brushed a clawed thumb across her bottom lip; he heard her breath hitch and she puckered those soft lips before giving the pad of his thumb a gentle kiss.

Something warm exploded in his gut and it was a damn good thing he was leaning against the tree because his knees got weak from the simple loving gesture and with her name on his next breath and in his heart, he dipped his head and crushed her mouth under his, thrusting his tongue inside, dueling with hers, and with every moan she emitted he answered with a rough growl.

Over and over again he kissed her, scarcely allowing her to draw her next breath before diving in again and teasing her tongue with his, nibbling with sharp fangs, sucking the soft flesh of her lips into his mouth and eliciting gasping cries while she shuddered against him. Her hand was on his ears, in his hair, then on his back; her nails dug into his shoulder as she arched against him, rolling her hips, and the resulting rush of pleasure was dizzying in its intensity, the swift jerk of his hips a purely instinctive motion.

Then the next grinding roll of her hips had the fire burning hotter under in his skin, the blood in his veins heating until the need to feel her hands on him, to feel her skin on his was so strong he was pulling away only to hastily shrug out of his firerat. Small hands rushed to help, shoving the garment off his shoulders to pool around their hips, caught between their heaving bodies, but they both ignored it as Kagome explored the solid expanse of his chest. Inuyasha hissed through tightly clenched teeth, her touch like a soothing balm, taming the urgent inferno roiling in his gut, but at the same time it wasn't enough, it wasn't nearly enough so with harried movements he yanked her shirt up, snapped his arm around her waist and hauled her up against him. The first contact of her skin on his drew a guttural groan and he felt her gasp against his mouth, reveled in the way she flattened her palm on his chest, right above his rapidly beating heart.

Claws snagged on the fabric of her shirt as he shifted his hand, framing the outside of her breast as he sought her lips in another hot, demanding kiss. Kagome writhed, she moaned, she told him of her pleasure by the sensual glide of her tongue against his, the jut of her chest, the gentle tug of her fingers in his hair, and the rocking motion of her hips that made the blood rush to his groin and all coherent thought to scatter to the four winds.

Kagome broke away, gasping for air, heart pounding and he found himself gazing into midnight eyes glazed over with heady desire, her face flushed a becoming shade of scarlet and her lips swollen and enticingly red. Inuyasha sucked in a sharp breath, issued a sound that was a cross between a whimper and a groan, then promptly crushed her to him desperately, his jaw clenched, his eyes squeezed tight as his heart swelled for this beautiful, wonderful woman in his arms. He felt her stroking his hair, brushing against his ears, running soothingly through the silver strains and Inuyasha suddenly felt like crying.

God, he didn't deserve her. Here he was, this lowly hanyou with nothing to his name except a sword and the clothes on his back, and this amazing, beautiful, kind young woman actually cared for him. Even though it's been hours, he was still having a hard time believing that she was actually here, in this time, with him. She wasn't a figment of his imagination; she wasn't a dream or ghostly memory, but alive, warm and beautiful in his arms and the sudden rush of love he felt for her in that moment made his throat tighten and his eyes to grow hot.

The past three years Inuyasha had been a shell of the man he'd once been, empty inside without Kagome's smiles, her laughter or her wonderful scent to keep him feeling complete. Not living, but merely surviving, the days had turned to weeks, and then months and he'd learned to live with the constant hollow feeling where his heart should have been. The tugging sensation in his chest, like invisible strings pulling to where he could not follow, had been a little harder to deal with, but he'd discovered going to the well every three days eased the ache inside and it made him feel a little closer to her, too.

It had been agony, pure and simple. A silent pain, to be sure, but it was there nonetheless, always on the fringe of his awareness, reminding him of what he was missing, but never dashing his hopes of a happier future. He'd chosen to believe that their separation had a higher purpose, that all of the suffering had a reason behind it, and sometimes it had been the only thing keeping him from spiraling down into despair. It had to mean something, the constant ache, the tugging sensation, the feeling like half of his heart was missing; he just hadn't figured out what that something was yet, and he was determined to find out.

Even if it meant forcing his incomplete soul to survive the next five hundred years just to see her smile again.

But then, by some miracle that he was still thanking the gods for, Kagome was suddenly back, in his arms where she belonged, her wonderful, intoxicating scent surrounding him, and Inuyasha was alive again. His heart, once a sad, desolate thing, had been brought back from the brink and with only a whisper of his name she'd managed to revive it, her love the strongest drug filling the void in his chest, and her warmth chasing away the three-year-long chill that had covered him like an invisible blanket.

And then she'd smiled at him and Inuyasha realized, not only had she given life to him once before, four long years ago at this same exact spot no less, but by coming back she'd given him his life all over again.

The tidal wave of emotion that surged within him was so strong that his knees actually did give out that time and with a grunt he tightened his grasp on the woman against him and slid to the ground, heedless of the bark scratching his bare back. Kagome accepted the new position with nary a flutter of an eyelash, simply shifting her legs so she was straddling him and wrapping her arms around his head, curling her spine, providing him a warm, nice smelling shelter as he buried his face in her chest and wept.

Kagome said nothing and simply held him, the salty tang of her tears the only thing cluing him in to her own emotions and for the next however long minutes, Kagome did her best to soothe her hanyou however she could, murmuring to him soft endearments, humming a soft, tuneless melody, and often massaging the sensitive flesh of his ears. Inuyasha was content to stay in her embrace, listening to her steady heartbeat, inhaling her sorely missed scent, teasing his senses with traces of arousal, and just relishing in the feel of her against him, warm and safe and here.

When at last he felt composed enough to pull away, emotions under control and his face red from a mixture of embarrassment and other things, Inuyasha did so with a sigh and lifted sunset eyes to lock with dark pools of chocolate brown. They were bright and glistening from her tears, but the smile on he face was brilliant and a fetching blush rode high on her cheeks. Her lips trembled and Inuyasha's face softened before he pulled her into his arms; Kagome released a shuddering sound that was halfway between a laugh and a sob and this time it was his turn to hold her as she cried, emitting a soothing rumble in his chest, kissing her head and running his claws up and down her back.

It was a release they'd both needed, evidently, and as Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and clung to him like she were afraid he'd disappear if she let go, the hanyou smiled because while moments ago when he was sure he was going to die in her arms, his beloved now cried in his, and Inuyasha could swear that he had never before felt so alive.
