Summary: Why say things when you can't really mean them? Why not say them anyways?

"I'll love you forever." Teeth scraped skin gently. Sheets rustled in the gray twilight of the bedroom, flickering as rain tapped against the window. "You know that?" Roxas rose up on his elbows to lean over Axel.

"Hm..." Axel's hand brushed down Roxas's cheek, tanned even though it rarely saw sunlight. "Do you mean it?"

Blue eyes peeked boyishly from behind shaggy blonde bangs. A smile curled the corners of his lips, playful and nothing at all like they killer they both knew him to be. "Of course not."

Lean arms wrapped around Roxas's waist. Axel leaned up and nuzzled the join of neck and shoulder, breathing deeply in an almost-sigh. "Then why say it?" Fingertips slid over waist and hip, bumping over scars Roxas had arrived with a still-fresh wounds from newer battles. "Kind of fucked up, saying things you don't mean."

A low purr dragged itself out of Roxas's throat as his body arched into the touches. The knife-edge of pleasure sliced so close to true emotion that sometimes he could convince himself that they were the same. "They do it all the time. Why shouldn't we?"

"When you put it that way..." The little touches vanished, and the hold around his waist tightened. It gave him just enough warning not to punch Axel out when he flipped them over, pressing the smaller boy to the bed. Axel grinned at him, tattoos fading into shadow on his cheeks. "I'll love you for never too." Dancing jade eyes caught and held Roxas's as they kissed, soft lips and warm mouths melting into a whole person for just a moment. The fire that Axel claimed as his own stoked slowly, promising to burn Roxas to cinders from the inside out. "For never and never. Remember that."

Sparkling motes of light slipped out of Roxas to cascade through Axel's veins, the same light that manifested the Keyblades. Roxas danced them along, appreciating the way it caused the redhead to arch over him, the tiny noises he made as they wound around the darkness that substituted for Axel's soul. Sweat stuck his hair to his forehead as the inner flames crept higher, searing pleasure along his bones. He could flex his will and send pieces of his lover scattering back to darkness, but not before burning to ashes himself.

Knowledge of the dangerous game they played glittered in Axel's eyes and flushed his cheeks. He looked beautiful so close to death. Roxas felt a grin stretch across his face. "Don't you mean 'forever'?" he rasped, throat dry and burning as the heat rose. The coils of light and flame tightened, wringing gasps from them both as they tipped even closer to the final edge.

"You lie your way," Axel groaned, "I'll lie mine." Hips ground together and power flared, crashing over them both in heady cascades as close to suicide as a Nobody could get without dying. Speech fled and all of Roxas's unanswered questions went with it as death danced even closer to life, ending in a final rush of ecstasy.

When Roxas came to Axel had gone, leaving a cold spot in the bed. The ever-present half-light pressed a heavy weight on Roxas' eyes as he stared at the bedroom door in silence, turning words and untruths over in his head, tasting the ideas.

"For never," he murmured to the lifeless room. "I'll remember that."

He lied.
