Reflection

Akito's last sentence echoed in his own head. 'I don't know.'

'Why did I said that?' Akito asked himself.

'You're uncertain,' the voice in his head answered back.

Tohru's words had haunted Akito, ringing true even as he clenched his eyes shut and grit his teeth as his fists clenched.

"Why is it true, how did she know?" Akito shouted to no one.

'I don't want to die,' his thoughts eventually faded.

Shigure sat at his desk, pen lingering near his paper. His editor had blockaded the door and nailed the window's shut with Kyo's help, as Tohru had convinced him to. Akito's words echoed in his head.

'They never even asked me!'

It had shocked him, he had never consciously considered that Akito hadn't chosen his fate, hadn't gotten a say. It had touched a cord to hear the hopeless angry fear, to hear the utter sadness in his voice. He was suddenly seeing Akito as a little more human then before. Maybe . . . they had misunderstood a little.

Yuki had been in the attic all day thinking about Tohru and Akito's exchange. While he would never like Akito or even be able to not fear him, he was still thinking about it. The tone of both their voices had made him feel . . . well, he didn't know exactly, not yet anyway. Suddenly Akito seemed more human and Tohru a little more insightful.

The exchange had amazed Yuki, shocked him even. Set aflame to his fast held beliefs. While the whole exchange did something to his heart, one piece stood out.

'But right now Akito . . . You're alive.'

Hatori was a little gentler on Akito the next check-up, a little less cold.

Tohru and Kyo both sat on the roof, thinking. A frown on Kyo's face and a heartbreakingly at peace expression on Tohru's.
