Title: Recompense

Summary: The Doctor watches Martha drift towards the sun and fears he's going to lose another friend.

A/N: Rose/10 and 10/Martha –friendship.

He watched her descending towards the centre of the sun. Just like Rose, she slipped away, slowly falling to her death and there was nothing he could do. At least Rose knew he'd tried to help. She heard his screams. Martha couldn't hear him now, couldn't see the tears forming in his eyes. She was gone; like Rose.

No! Determination washed over him. Rose was gone but she was safe. Martha was going to die unless he helped her. He'd already lost Rose.

Saving Martha wouldn't bring her back; but it would ease his guilt over Rose for a while.
