A/N: First off, I don't own anything.

This is my take on Martha's reaction during the scene with Smith taking the watch to when she and Tim are on the bench outside. Pretty simple, but I needed to get something out here. Reviews would be amazing. This is my third Doctor Who fic written, but only second posted. Thanks for your support :D

Martha watched as John Smith turned from the window, grabbing the watch from Tim, and strode across the room.

She watched as he stared intently at the small round object, listening.

She felt her heart leap as her Doctor appeared suddenly, explaining some complicated thing as though it should be obvious.

She felt her heart break as he vanished just as rapidly.

She defended herself as Smith blamed her for what was happening.

She explained the situation as explosions sounded from outside.

She felt her heart break again as the man accused her with the Doctor's voice and body.

She struggled to make him understand as he stared at her, so frightened it shook her to her core.

She bared her emotions as she stared at the man she loved, hoping he felt the same.

She felt her dread growing as he jumped to a solution that would destroy everything.

She felt jealousy as he listened to the nurse, but wouldn't listen to her.

And she felt sadness, as she at last realized that Smith wasn't just a story. He wasn't just an ignorant part of the Doctor left alone to be a sacrifice; he was a man. A real man. And he had so much to live for. He had his own life, his own job, and his love. A love that the Doctor had never, and could never, have. Maybe, she thought, somewhere in the back of his mind, John Smith knew that and didn't want to let it go. She knew deep down that Smith would make the right decision, that he would let himself die to save the people he knew, the people he loved.

Finally, as Martha sat outside with Tim, comforting the boy and comforting herself, she felt guilty.
