Chapter 1: Why It Wouldn't Work
"Ahh!" screamed the really unfortunate boy named Watanuki. He was currently running for his life, again, from a cloud-like youkai. It was close and gaining ground. 'This is it. This the day I die,' thought Watanuki bitterly and frantically, 'Of all the things have tried to kill him before it was ironic that this weak youkai is the thing that kills me. It's also a bit anti-climatic.' That's when he tripped and fell straight to the ground. 'Here it comes, Im going to die today,' he thought dazedly. (word? Idk but it is now.) but it didn't come though.
"Huh?" Watanuki thought out loud.
Looking up what he saw surprised and scared him at the same time; it was Doumeki with his bow and arrow and he was practically glowing with his anger.
'Anger? Why would he be angry? Is he? Is he angry at the youkai? Is he angry at it because it almost ate him? Was he that worried about me? No, he couldn't be. No, he was worried about losing his homemade bento boxes for lunch. Because it wouldn't work if he cared about me. Do you want to know why? Because one day I will die and Doumeki won't be there to protect me and I'll leave him alone. I couldn't do that to him; I couldn't do that. No, he'll have to keep thinking I hate him. So it will be easier for us that way when I die,' Watanuki thought sadly and bitterly.
Coming out of his daze, Watanuki saw Doumeki leaning in closely to his face; his own face had a look of concern. Before Watanuki could react he was in Doumeki's lap and in a tight hug with his face in Watanuki's neck.
"Doumeki?" Watanuki whispers. There was no reply but a tightening of his arms.
"Doumeki? Are you ok?" Watanuki asked quietly.
"You are never getting out of my site again," was all Doumeki said.
"What? You can be around me all the time!" Watanuki exclaimed none to quietly this time. When he said this Doumeki tightened his arms once more, growled into Watanuki's neck and said "Watch me."
Maybe It wouldn't work, bit it didn't hurt to try.
