Time Skip - Keitaro is starting his second week in the second year of university and he finds things have not gone easy for him, and now it will get worse.

For the last year Keitaro had going to classes, Archaeology, Anthropology and Sociology were just fun, and making it more fun was his sensei teaching them his lessons in a way that seemed to make them come alive while at the same time he was such a terrible driver that every field trip was an adventure in itself. But in his free time both Naru and Mutsumi would always be around him, always asking for his attention, to the point that the other boys claimed they were his own personal harem. It did not help matters that he would not help set up a date between one of the girls with any boy that asked him for help. And to make it worse Mitsune (usually very sexy looking too) would show up at times also making it clear she too was interested in him. And once the three girls together insisted on going out for drinks, Keitaro would find his hands full once they started getting drunk.

When he had first entered the university he thought all his questions and doubts would be answered. Instead it seemed to raise them even more. It was not clear that Naru or Mutsumi were really the "Promised Girl" even with what clues he had found over the years pointing to Naru, Keitaro had to wondered if he had missed the real girl in fact since it took so long for him to enter into TU.

It was time for lunch and as he headed down to the area outside to meet Naru and Mutsumi he knew there was more to come, but now everyone else would meeting there after starting their new classes and he knew it would get more complicated.

As usual, "What took you so long?", Naru asked even though Keitaro was at their favorite picnic bench on time.

Mutsumi was already laying out the food that Shinobu had supplied, "Shinobu sure packed us a large lunch today.", she commented.

"That is because she knew who was coming today. ", Keitaro remarked even as he saw the new additions were also coming towards him.

Motoko and Tomoya, approached, both with small smiles, both had made it into university this year with amazing high scores that overrode their young ages.

"All it took was looking at the tests as a battle that must be won.", Motoko had declared last year, then she and Tomoya devoted their sharp minds to the task at hand. And the results spoke for themselves.

However, the reason Tomoya was always with her was not that they were taking the same classes (they weren't), not be because he was love-sick and fascinated about her (he was), but because the boys of the university were constantly trying to ask Motoko out for a date. Motoko did not handle this 'new to her' development well, and when some boys persisted in bothering her, her reactions tended to be very violent indeed. Tomoya was not there to protect Motoko, Tomoya was there to protect the boys.

"What about me?", the voice Keitaro heard was not a surprise, but he knew this would just make things worse with the university rumor mills, as he turned he saw Mitsune walking towards him in that sexy way she could put on if she wanted to, especially while she wore a tight dress like the one she was presently wearing that did not hide any of her womanly features. And even as he turned to face her he could see the eyes of all the surrounding boys staring at her and then the girls already gathered around the picnic bench, finally the boys's eyes turned to him with envy and with a little hate in their eyes.

Keitaro did his best to put a welcoming smile upon his face.

As all the girls and Keitaro gathered at the picnic table, they sat down to eat. As they shared in the bounty that Shinobu's skills made for them, Keitaro made the biggest mistake of his life since the time he entered the Hinata the first time and lied about his ability to enter university.

"We have gone thru a lot together, and I count you as all close friends.", Keitaro said, while still not understanding how deep the feelings of the girls towards him really were.

"And I hope we can remain friends forever.", he said as he reached into a pocket of his pants to bring out what was strange surprise for the girls.

In his hand was a bunch of chains and on each chain was a ring.

"What are they?", Mitsune was the first to ask.

"Friendship rings.", Keitaro replied, "It something I learnt Americans do when they want to show they are close to a girl but are not in a dating relationship.", Keitaro expanded his explanation.

Okay - in-case you don't realize it, Keitaro has totally messed the time frame and meanings of friendship rings and the term "going steady" here.

The girls eyed the chains and rings with interest and surprise as Keitaro handed them out to each girl.

Motoko however hesitated when Keitaro went to hand her a chain, then slowly took it as Tomoya gave her a nudge.

On his part, Tomoya was already carrying a ring that he had planned to offer her when they graduated, but he often had been asking himself if it was a good enough one to offer her. Keitaro's action however opened up a new possibility to him, as Motoko grasped the chain Keitaro offered she also suddenly found Tomoya had opened a small box in front of her also and said, "Could you add my ring to the chain also?".

A surprised Motoko quickly looked at each man and to her own surprise and relief both men were smiling at her. She looked at the rings again, Keitaro's was a simple silver ring - Tomoya's was a gold ring with a small diamond in it, yet Motoko found she did not desire one ring over the other. She quickly looked at both men. They both were still smiling at her, she seemed to have no choice so she quickly added Tomoya's ring to the chain and hung it around her neck. Looking around she could also see the other girls were already hanging their chains around their necks.

And all the girls were thinking the same thing as they looked at each other, "How do I get Keitaro-sempai to put this ring on my finger.?".
