Author's Note: This is for a friend who wanted something about Peter, Tony and 8 million dollars. Some spoilers if you haven't read anything about the Unmasking and the Clone Saga. This is my first Spidey fic, I hope it's okay!

Just One Thing

"--And that's it. He killed my brother, killed... kidnapped, I don't know... if he kidnapped her, she must be dead by now, her and Kaine. Or she's off being raised by my killer clone in Egypt or something, I don't... I want to believe that, but I don't."

Peter took a deep breath and put a hand over his eyes, seeming to forget he still had the mask on. Then they sat in silence, two grown men in two "differently pretty" (as MJ put it) red-and-gold suits.

Until Tony said, "There's one thing you didn't tell me, Peter."
Peter grunted, as if to say, "What?"
Tony looked at the floor. "What ever happened to Gwen's clone?"
Peter felt his mask slipping off as his weary, shaking hand trailed over his face -- it was weird, reminding himself that he didn't have to pull it back up any more. "Why do you want to know?"
"I was just thinking... it'd be difficult to explain her existence to Ms. Stacy's family," Tony stared at his palms.
"Oh. I never did," Tony could see Peter biting his lip under the mask, mulling over some new worry. "I didn't know how. She, god, she's probably in danger-- if anyone finds out about her--"

Tony put a hand on his shoulder.

"I'll take care of it, Peter."
"But it's my fault someone even created her in the first place, I should..."
"Not everything is your responsibility, Peter. The last thing you need to worry about right now is your ex's clone."

Slipping his mask off, Peter let out a breath he hadn't even known he'd been holding. "Thanks, Boss," he muttered.
"Anytime," Tony waved, as he headed to the Quinjet. "It's not like you have to pay me eight million dollars to spend a night with a clone of the lovely Ms. Stacy."

Peter nodded, soaking in a blessed moment of peace while that sunk in. "Wait. Tony--!?"
