Heya, everyone! I got the inspiration for this story yesterday, and it kind of decided to present itself in a couple of oneshots and a series. So here's the first oneshot in the Grace series. Enjoy, and please remember to review!
Disclaimer: Only Grace is mine, and I ain't sharing!!
Big hugs go out to all my fans! Without ya'll, I would just go crawl back under my sink!
Grace.
When she had come into her parent's lives, her father had cried and her mother had laughed, which, to the people who had been there, had been incredibly unusual and comforting.
The pregnancy, while not exactly planned, had gone perfectly, with no complications. And when she had gone into labor, she had been very calm, while he had been a nervous wreck. After running two stops signs and a red light, he got her to the hospital in record time, where maternity was already waiting for her.
The trouble came when eight long hours of labor passed, and still no baby. She was exhausted already, and something told her that this baby was already just like it's father: stubborn and refusing to come according to schedule.
The pains kept her alert and frustrated him. She was in pain, and there was nothing he could do for her but hold her hand and promise that it would be over eventually.
Day passed into night, and sometime around seven the next night, the contractions were right on top of each other. He told her to breathe, and she told him to shut up right before she screamed and gripped his hand so hard that he thought the bones would break.
Finally Cuddy announced that she could see the head of their child, and he had wrapped his arms around her shoulders and held her as she screamed again and brought their child into the world.
Every person in the room held their breath until the baby gasped, then began shrieking loudly. Wilson carefully cut the cord, and Cuddy carried the screaming baby over to the other side of the room, then cleaned it and wrapped it in a receiving blanket.
Cameron rested her head on House's shoulder, utterly exhausted but not missing the tears that hit the top of her head. Finally a smiling Cuddy laid their newborn child in her arms, and for the first time, Cameron looked at her child.
Forty two hours of the most pain she had ever endured physically had come down to this moment.
"It's a girl," Cuddy announced softly, and Cameron smiled and touched her daughter's cheek gently.
"Grace," House said suddenly, and Cameron tilted her head and looked up at him. It made sense. "Because she took long enough to 'grace' us with her presence," he explained, running a calloused thumb over Cameron's jaw, then their daughter's forehead.
"Grace House," Cameron corrected firmly, and House smirked at her.
"That's a given," he teased, and she could still see the redness in his cerulean eyes from when he had been crying. The baby opened her eyes and immediately began scanning her surroundings, and House let out a deep throated chuckle.
One eye was a bright, cerulean color, while the other was more of a bluish green color. It figured. Nothing was ever easily solved with them.
Grace Allison House. Weighing an even eight pounds, she had come into her parent's lives and changed them forever. She had graced their lives with her presence, tangible proof of their love, and to Gregory House, proof of the only good thing he had ever done in his life.
His saving grace, in every sense of the term.
His Grace.
The End
A/N: Like I said, this is just the beginning of several oneshots and possibly a series revolving around this little girl. Thanks for reading, please remember to review, and I'll see ya'll again soon!
