Let's try something new here!

I wrote this in the POV of Professor Membrane.

Please read and review.

DISCLAIMER: I own nothing of Invader Zim!

"Dad, please. I really need you to give me this ride!"

I placed my hands on my head out of exhaustion. "Not now son! As you can plainly see, I am doing something much more important!"

It felt a little exciting. I was so close! I just needed to adjust the formula here, and change the chemical balance there… I could almost taste it. This would revolutionize the automobile industry as we know it!

But my poor insane son…

He tugged on my coat pleadingly. "Dad, I am already going to be late for the meeting! The Swollen Eyeballs conference room is just few miles away."

I stared at him though my goggles. "Look son, I just have no time encouraging your insanity. The world needs me now!"

His face fell. Great, he is making that face again. "But I need you now."

I waved him off. "Why don't you just walk? Kids your age need the exercise anyway."

"But then I would have to walk three miles dragging this thing!" He protested.

He was holding a bulky briefcase. It seemed normal size, but the contents must have been great. He was using both hands to carry it.

I turned my back to him. "Just use your old wagon then. Right now, I don't want to listen to this."

I didn't hear him move for a second. At last, he left. I sighed, relived. I could go back to my work. I took out a notepad and scribbled down what I saw in the chemical reaction. This was far more interesting then phony aliens and false sightings of Big Foot.

I continued my work for what seemed like hours. It wasn't coming all together as I hoped. I was doing something wrong, or maybe I was just distracted.

Ether way, this experiment was going nowhere. Like my son. If he keeps up this nonsense, he will never survive in this world. He needs to get his head straight! And he has such potential in real science, I see it myself. Dib is just so misguided…

I sighed and left the lab. That boy should be getting home now, its getting late.

My daughter was at her usual place, playing that videogame. One of these days, I will have to find a way to pry her away from that. Maybe I can teach her how to make games herself; game developers make a decent living.

"Daughter?" I said.

She looks up at me. "What?"

"Has your brother come home yet?" I asked.

She shook her head. "No." She said simply and returned to her game. "I bet he is playing with Zim again."

I shrugged and left the room. I could really use a cup of tea right now…

Ring! Ring!

"Dear me, is that the phone?" I said to myself. I answered it. "Hello? Professor Membrane speaking."

"Mr. Membrane, do you have a son named Dib Membrane?" The voice sounded gruff.

I paused for a second. I don't know who this is. "Yes. He went out earlier, who is this?"

"I am Officer Lukewater. I am afraid there was an accident."

My stomach felt like someone had ironed it flat. My head began to hurt. "Was… Was anyone hurt?" My voice sounded different. I made a glance at Gaz, who was now staring at me.

The officer didn't speak for a moment. "…I'm sorry. Your son was hit by a drunk driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene."

I fell to my knees in disbelief. "What?" I gasped. I hoped this was a cruel crank call of some kind. My son, he can't be dead!

The officer sighed apologetically. "Your son was pronounced dead at the scene." He repeated. "You can claim the body at the morgue..."

I slowly hung up the phone. My son, my only son was dead. And I was the one that killed him.
