Wow, hi, it's been an obscenely long time, hasn't it?
I'm posting this chapter to let you know that I'm giving this story a serious rewrite and overhaul. In fact, when I'm done with it, it'll be pretty much unrecognizable. However, I'm 100% positive it will be much, much better, too.
Thing is, I startedThis is How You Remind Me when I was a freshman in high school, which was almost ten years ago, now. (Ohmygod I'm ooooold...). And a couple of years after starting the story, I kind of drifted away from my whole anime thing. I especially lost interest in it after starting college. So between my own maturing writing ability making me dislike the work itself, a lack of interest in anime, and a rather severe case of writer's block on the thing anyway, it got... abandoned.
So, life happened. Basically. Lots of life happened.
I got a serious girlfriend, girlfriend broke up with me, graduated college, got a job, moved across the Pacific Ocean, turned twenty-four, and kept writing the whole time in new fandoms and genres...
...yeah, lots of life happened.
About a month ago, I drifted back into anime because I was bored and feeling nostalgic and needed something nice and familiar to watch while I was knitting. I was feeling like some samurai, so I watched the Rurouni Kenshin live action movie, tracked down the other two, needed more so I found the subbed anime, then finished the manga series... And then did something similar to Yu Yu Hakusho, though that was more select fights from the anime supplemented with the realization that I never actually finished the manga series I was completely obsessed with when I was a teenager. Add in the realization that oh, hey, it is completely and entirely possible that I could be living in Japan within the next few years and yeah, there was a pretty serious anime rediscovery with me.
This, of course, includes fic. Because I'm a writer and words are the best way I can express affection for something.
So, even though reading this fic kind of makes me cringe (ohmygod the characterizations wHAT WAS I THINKING), I did. And I discovered something.
Pretty much everything I wrote in middle school and/or high school can fall under the heading of "Good idea poorly executed." And because I don't like just abandoning a good idea for the wolves, a rewrite became necessary. Especially because, as a more mature writer, I wanted to know how I would handle these old favorite characters now, what I could do with the seed of an idea when given things like outlines, pacing, and an overarching plot.
I've written almost 25K on the rewrite and it's only now that things are really picking up.
So this longwinded author's note is to say... Hey, guess what, the people who are still following this old thing? If you're still interested, go look at my profile and check out the rewrite! I have a better idea of what I'm doing, which means it stands a much better chance of being completed than, well, pretty much anything else I've ever written! I'll be leaving this thing up for archival purposes (it is still technically my most popular story posted on this website), but don't expect another update after this announcement.
Go check the new one out. Leave me a review, if you like. Or, y'know, don't.
