Missing

Boq was drunk and Nessa was too in love to refuse the first time he kissed her. The second time, four seconds later, he was still drunk, but Nessa's mind was too far gone from the first kiss to care about where his hands were wandering until they managed to slide underneath her shirt. Boq had given up with the buttons. Hot fingers on cold skin tempting him further, even Boq's frazzled brain felt her body flinch away from him, and he froze.

"Nessa?" She shuddered. "M'sorry." She shook her head.

"Not like this..." Boq swallowed and pushed himself away from her. "What are you doing?" He stumbled as he stood, but managed to turn down the lights until the room was a dull gold only around the lamps. He took one glance at the fireplace before he heard Nessa's laughter from the bed. She shook her head, unbuttoned her vest and held out one hand. "I didn't mean romantic lighting. I meant some more coordination, but…" She beckoned him, and he pushed off from the wall. "…Maybe when you're sober." He swallowed again. "If you still want to."

"Then what are you doing?"

"Trust me, after that much alcohol you'll want a hug in the morning." Two arms slid around his neck. "And some coffee." He didn't protest as Nessa pulled him underneath the blankets tossed across her bed, and, several days later, he would vaguely remember helping her underneath the blankets as she ran her fingers through his hair. He sighed.

"I would like that." Nessa's fingers tightened and gripped his shirt. "I'm not going to go missing in the night, 'Essa." She pressed her lips to his cheek.

"I like to be prepared."

Running one hand across the thin sheet of paper, the man of tin made no sound as he starred at the slip of paper pasted to the bulletin board in Munchkin square. He flattened his silver hand against the words.

Glancing at the silhouette of the Governor's Mansion, he turned his head to the left trying to feel some memory of Nessa's fingers against his cheek, but no sensations passed across his metal frame. A dull groan escaped his chest. Another simply luxury he could never enjoy. Forcing thoughts of Nessa's fingers out of his mind, he turned his head back to the sign once before pushing himself away from it.
