Severus was awful, horrific, pathetic, and just plain bad at extempore speeches. However, desperate times call for desperate measures – a saying he had always hated but now more than ever understood the honesty behind. He looked at his students' expectant and amused faces and took a deep, fortifying breath.
Ten minutes earlier:
The students began filing in to their first class of the morning to find their Potions Professor snogging England's Seeker, who was currently perched on the immaculate desk. The students gaped, unable to say a word. Harry broke the kiss and rested his head on Severus' shoulder. "Severus," he whispered. "We have company."
Severus glanced at the students and frowned. Then he glanced at his watch. Then at the clock on the wall. Back at his watch. He groaned.
"Fuck," he breathed very close to Harry's ear.
"Not now, love, unfortunately," Harry answered as quietly.
"I forgot to set my watch forward an hour for Daylight Savings Time," Severus whispered in Harry's ear. Harry stifled a giggle at that. He wasn't the one who would have to deal with the fallout, after all.
Harry gave him a gentle little push. Severus obligingly moved back enough for Harry to jump off the desk. "Clearly, I shouldn't be here. Have a nice lesson."
Severus glared at him. Not that it did much to Harry besides excite him further.
"See you tonight," he whispered in Severus' ear. "I might be kinda late, I have a match today." Severus nodded stoically.
"Goodbye, everyone," Harry said as he left the classroom.
After Harry left (Severus' extempore speech):
"Professor Snape, sir, was that really Harry Potter?" one student asked when she realized that Severus wasn't going to say anything, try as he might.
Severus, although he did not show it, was glad for the question. It gave a starting point.
"Yes, it really is."
"Sir, what was he doing here, if you don't mind me asking?"
Time to go for it, Severus thought to himself. Just tell them. "He's my husband," Severus answered. He cleared his throat. "There is no excuse for our behavior in the classroom, especially since we punish students we find doing the same. I could say that I honestly thought there was another hour before class, but had I found two students in the same situation at any time of the day, I would have given them a week of detention and would have taken many points. I could say I'm a Professor here, but that makes a mockery of my authority. Suffice to say, you shall not see it again, nor do I want to see you emulating me. Nor do I want to hear a word about it. Is that clear?"
"Yes, sir," the class chorused.
That night:
"I'm sorry, Sev," Harry apologized. "For this morning, I mean."
Severus smiled slightly. "Not your fault."
"What did you say to them?"
"Oh… I gave them an extempore speech about snogging in classrooms, irregardless of the example I've apparently set."
