into the wind

She'd sit by the sea and look at the little island, watch Selphie ride her boat over to it. Watch a tiny Tidus attempt to achieve something by hitting a stick over a tree over and over. Watch as Wakka's ball flew into the air every now and then.

She'd sit there and know she'd never have the guts to go to the island. She was scared of all the memories, all the memories of Riku and that boy.

That boy, she murmured. The wind whipped hair around her face and she knew that if she had one wish – just one wish – she could whisper to the wind she'd whisper for his name.

She wanted to call him to her; she wanted him to be there and she knew she liked it being around him; she'd feel so much different, so much happier – like she had been reborn. She wanted to love him.

She knew the name, she could feel it in the back of her brain, like a fly's buzz. You could hear it, but you couldn't see it. Calling his name out silently to the wind though was different to knowing his name.

If only he was just there, she could tell him – tell him everything. He wasn't flawless, that she knew. But she'd see through his mistakes, straight through and maybe... maybe one day he'd understand why. He never knew before and she couldn't tell him.

But now, she would do anything to make him see how much she really felt.

She leant back on her arms and looked up. The sky was blue, there wasn't a cloud in sight.

But it was raining hard. Yet the ground wasn't wet. And the sun still shone bright and the sea was calm.

And her heart clenched and unclenched like a clamp being controlled by someone. It was being controlled by him.

Until I finally get you, she whispered. The skies will cry ash, she felt the fabric of the shirt above her heart, and the heart will scream its yearning.
