Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon or any of its characters.
A/N: Heck, the last time I saw Digimon was six years ago and I was itching for Yamato and Mimi to end up together. But now, half a decade later, I'm suddenly fangirling Taito! Also, I'm tired of Taichi and Yamato angst about being in love with each other when they're supposed to be just best friends. So, I give you this. Pardon the shortness. It's my first Digimon ficlet ever.

In another time, Yamato would have ended with Sora. They would have slowly fallen in love amidst the smoky glamour of rock and roll. They would have gotten married and had three children. A respectable life, to be sure.
But instead something fundamentally different happened.
In between the note passing, lectures and punishment for talking in class, in the hallways and soccer fields and concert stages, Taichi and Yamato fell in love. It wasn't gradual, like the sensation of sweetly drowning, but it was the sudden realization that maybe the touchy-feely way between the two of them wasn't just because they were best friends. Or that sharing a bed didn't bother either of them at all.
Taichi looked at Yamato and Yamato looked at Taichi. They couldn't quite tell each other yet. They've been best friends for so long that the idea of being more was just too new to them. But it wasn't unwanted. No, it wasn't. So even if certain things seemed a little awkward initially (like sleepovers and watching movies at home with just the two of them), they would make it through.
They weren't going to fall apart or shatter their friendship over it because truthfully, it just seemed like the natural progression of their relationship.
There was no denying or stopping the inevitable, after all.
