Familial Obligations: Ten Years Later

Hermione Weasley rubbed her throbbing temple while her nine year old daughter, Rose, babbled on about Quidditch to Teddy Lupin

Hermione Weasley rubbed her throbbing temple while her nine year old daughter, Rose, babbled on about Quidditch to Teddy Lupin. The younger girl idolized Hogwarts newest Head Boy and swore she would be just like him when her turn came in a few years. Hermione had a feeling that Rose would follow through with that promise, after all, her father had been Head Boy in his day as well.

Thoughts of Bill brought a small smile to Hermione's lips. She remembered the day, long ago, when she had realized she was pregnant with Rose. At the time she had been horrified, scared, lost but now she couldn't imagine life without her precious little girl.

"Hermione?"

Her thoughts were interupted when she glanced up to find Charlie waiting in the doorway for her.

"Mum says dinner's ready, are you guys?" he asked, including Rose and Teddy in his question.

"Oooh! Did she fix plum pudding? That's my favorite!" Rose exclaimed.

"Well, why don't you go wash your hands and find out?" Charlie asked with a smirk.

Rose jumped up and grabbed Teddy's hand. "Come on! Let's go! I love it when Gramma fixes plum pudding!"

Charlie just laughed as the exhuberant girl pulled the reluctant boy out of the sitting room. He turned his attention to the quiet brunette on the loveseat.

"Feeling any better?" he asked, coming to sit by her.

"Not really. Full moon tonight, you know how that makes me feel," she replied with a shiver.

"You know you didn't have to come, too, right? I told you I could bring Rose and you could stay at home..."

"I know, but it's been so long since I have been to the Burrow. I didn't want your mum to think I was avoiding the place."

"You wouldn't be the first to avoid this place. By the way... uh, Ron just got here. Are you guys... okay?"

"Yeah. Well, as okay as we can be. We had lunch the other day and it went pretty well."

"That's good. So, ready to eat? Mum won't leave us be for long before she comes to drag us kicking and screaming."

Hermione couldn't help but laugh at that.

"Yeah, I'm ready. Starving actually. Let's go!"

Charlie draped a causual arm around her shoulders and gave a quick squeeze as they made their way into the kitchen of the Burrow.

Ron looked up as they walked in and gave a small smile.

"Hey 'Mione. How have you been?" he asked a little wistfully.

She thought for a second before answering.

"Good. I've been... good." After answering she realized that that was the truth. The last ten years may not have been easy, but they had been good. And that was enough for her.
