A/N

For me personally, one of the more appealing aspects about the Warcraft universe is that while it features two distinct sides with different philosophies, it doesn't fall into the clicheness of good vs. evil. True, the Burning Legion and Scourge can have the latter classification applied to them easily, but the Horde and Alliance are both portrayed in shades of gray that makes for a more realistic dynamic.

But with the lack of good and evil, there's no precedent for one side to prevail...

Road to Eternity

I was once told that there is no such thing as a constant, timeless enemy. In this day and age, many would disagree with such a notion, but I can still remember a time where such words rang true. Enemies change with the times, either through politics or such hatreds petering out. It is why, back in this truth's hayday, that peace was punctuated by intervals of war, rather than it being the opposite way round.

Ironic then, that these words came from Admiral Daelin Proudmoore, lord of Kul Tiras. The one who betrayed his own words…

His actions seem irreconcilable with this view and maybe there is no reconciliation between them, no bridging of the divide between what one says and what one does.

Put simply, my father ended up betraying his own words, restarting a war that ended fourteen years ago and should have stayed that way. At the time, I would have never condoned his actions. What worth is there in bounding oneself to fate, to resist changing times and strive to conform to an order that is no longer valid? My father paid the ultimate price for his blindness and if it wasn't for the fact that Theramore suffered in the process, I could almost pity him for it.

Yet what if he wasn't blind? What if he saw what was coming? What if he was not conforming to the old ways, but rather to the new?

The world has become polarized, we can all see that. Peace exists, but is pierced by that which is between it and war. No longer is conflict the result of lust for territory, honor or even ideology. It is fought because there is nothing else. It has become the new way of maintaining equilibrium. That is the truth…the universal truth, looking down upon what was once considered to be truth, that there is no timeless enemy.

We've set upon the road to equilibrium. And for every step that is made, the exact same steps are made all along the way.

We've reached eternity…
