A/N: For shadowsamurai83 (again). This was my first Q drabble idea (for my Alphabet Soup series) but as you can see it didn't quite fit the word limit, so you get another random/short ficlet from me. Also, this is not beta-ed.
Disclaimer: I still do not own CSI (and I'm still upset about it).
"Sara, you look lovely tonight," Gil spoke softly, reaching across the table and caressing her hand. The hostess had just finished seating them in a secluded, private booth.
She smiled brightly at him. "Thank you." A few seconds passed before she exited the booth. "Sorry. I, uh, need to use the ladies room," she said.
Nearly thirty minutes and half a dozen trips to the restroom (and other places) later, Sara once again excused herself from the table.
Standing in a quiet corner near the back of the restaurant, she quickly punched in the number that she had been calling all night.
Two rings later, the other line picked up. "You know you're dangerously close to maxing out your quota of how many times you said you would call me tonight…"
"Catherine," Sara began.
The blonde interrupted, already aware of what her friend was going to ask. "She's fine, Sara. Abby's just spending some quality time napping with her Aunt Catherine and Uncle Warrick."
"That's good," Sara breathed out a sigh of relief before continuing, "Have you checked on her though? When she's sleeping, she gets cold sometimes. I don't want her shivering…and then… then it's almost time for her to eat again… what if she doesn't want to take the bottle, Catherine? I should never have left her…what kind of mother am I?"
"Sara! Calm down; take a deep breath. You're a great mother. You are," she reiterated firmly. "Don't worry about Abby. I do have some experience with babies, you know."
"Okay. Okay, you're right. Sorry. It's just that tonight is the first time I've left Abby…"
"Of course, I'm right. And, Sara, I know it's hard but you have to leave her for the first time eventually," Catherine told her gently. "Now why don't you go back and enjoy your dinner out with your husband, and try not to call for… let's say another thirty minutes?"
Sara tried not to feel too embarrassed. "Yeah, I will. As it stands now, Gil probably thinks that I have some kind of kidney or bladder infection with all my little trips I have taken to the restroom."
Catherine laughed. "Well, truth be told, every time you have called me tonight, Warrick's cell phone has gone off as well. It was Grissom on the other line, checking in on how Abby was doing..."
Another ten minutes later, Catherine was finally able to hang up her cell phone (after Sara had made her promise to call if Abby needed her). Walking over to the crib, she saw Abby's blue eyes staring up at her. "Oh, you're awake," she softly exclaimed. Leaning down to tickle the baby's tummy, she cooed, "You know that your mommy and daddy are silly… yes, they are…"
Abby's response was to gurgle happily.
"But they love you, sweet girl. Just like I love you, too." She reached into the cradle and carefully picked her up. Cradling Abby in her arms, Catherine walked over to the rocking chair in the room and sat down. "Okay, now that we're comfortable… let's have some girl talk," she whispered. "Just you and me. You can fill me in on the true story of how and when your parents got together… and don't leave out any of the good details…"
