Saving Rogue
Chapter 1

Bobby was trying to drown out the mutants' chanting. He was frantically looking for the white streaked hair that belonged to Rogue. Or, Marie, as she was going to become. He didn't care about her being "untouchable". He didn't. He shouldn't have been with Kitty; maybe that's what made her run. He...was having trouble admitting this to himself, but...was in love with Rogue. He needed her. He didn't want her to be normal. He wanted his Rogue.

Then, he spotted her.

"Rogue!" he cried out, pushing past his fellow mutants to get to the one he cared about. "Rogue!"

She was trying and failing to ignore Bobby's calls as he made his way to her. She wanted this. She wanted him to touch her like he was able to touch Kitty.

"Bobby," she sighed, and looked at him, "what are you doing here?"

"What does it look like?" he asked, taking her gloved hand in his, "I'm stopping you."

"I want this, Bobby."

"No, you don't. You don't need this. I don't need you to become like this. I need you. All of you."

"I can't touch you without hurting you, Bobby!"

"Does it look like I care? Because I don't!"

"Bobby--"

"I can work with it, Rogue. I will. But I can't let you do this. You wouldn't be able to stay at the school, because your not a mutant. When would I see you?"

She hesitated. She hadn't really thought of that. Where would she go? Surely the Professor could let her stay...couldn't he?

"Please," he said, forgetting himself and placing his cold hand on her bare cheek, "don't do this to me."

She waited for him to drop to the floor because she had sucked his life away. She waited, but his hand never left her face, and he stayed standing, and very much normal.

"Bobby," she whispered in awe, "you can touch me."

"Yeah, look at my hand."

Rogue did what he asked, and she saw a thin layer of frost covering his skin.

"I'll do whatever I need to do to keep you. I can't loose you like this, Rogue, I can't."

She watched more frost rose and covered his lips. She smiled and leaned in, hugging him to her. He kissed her softly, tenderly, letting his emotions seep through his lips and into the kiss.

"Promise me, Rogue. Promise me," he said into her mouth.

"I'll stay with you, Bobby. I promise. I promise."

He smiled and kissed her happily, pulling her out of the line at the same time. For a moment, he forgot they were mutants, forgot about the impending war, forgot everything but her. Her warm lips on his neverending cold ones. He smirked. He told her he could work around it.
