Hard Truths: Chapter 8

The party was a success. After a day or two of crying and sulking Harry had managed to pull himself together. 'No more of that' he had sworn to himself 'they are not worth crying over', and he was truly making an effort to put it all behind him and move on. However, it was not as easy as all that. Though he usually managed to stop himself from pondering on them and his time with them, his condition was not allowing him to completely forget them. These were the times that he wished that he was not pregnant, that he was not carrying the proof of their significance inside himself. Yet, these were the times that left him guilt ridden. He could not wish his children away, they were his and he already loved them beyond anything he had ever loved and Harry was sure, once born, it'll be the kids who will finally complete him. However that was still far in the future.
Even though two months had already passed since that god forsaken party - though everything was perfect and Teddy had enjoyed himself immensely - Harry was still three months away from the due date. Entering his third trimester he was really beginning to feel the absence of the fathers. He had discovered not too long ago that both his children have different fathers and that unfortunately meant that he needed both of them.
Harry, however, had come to the decision that he will do whatever he takes to keep his children alive and that he will no longer beg his exes for their help or support. His main priorities were his children and he could no longer trust their fathers too look after them. If they could not keep their promises there was no way they could be there for his children when need be.
Harry had spent the last two months getting his affairs in order and researching ways to survive and birth healthy children. He had found none so far. There was minimum literature on how to survive without the other parent but there was a lot on things that could go wrong. He could relate some of the things he'd found in his research with the symptoms he had been experiencing in the last month or more - constant lethargy for one.
Harry barely had energy to do much most of the days and he had also lost his appetite. He had to force feed himself most of the time and it didn't always stay down. Harry was sure if he didn't find something soon, he might not survive to see the 8th month of his pregnancy.
Till now he had managed to hide most of his symptoms from Andromeda. However, Harry was sure not much was hidden from his nurse. Cheryl was around more often now, probably because she had read all the medical books Harry was just now going through. He somewhat understood why Severus was always hovering near Draco and doing even the littlest things for him. That didn't mean he could forgive them though. But at least now he understood.
Cheryl had kept her distance so far, though Harry wasn't sure how long that was going to last. He was sure she could see sign of his deterioration and it was her job to do something about it. It was probably for the best. Right after the party Harry had closed his house off to all and had remained in seclusion with just Teddy and Andromeda for company. He couldn't risk people knowing about the pregnancy and he was beginning to show.
Harry was okay about it. He had asked her to move in as a full time care-taker around the seventh month, which was fast approaching. According to Cheryl and all the research he has been doing that's around the time he should really experience the downward slide of his health.

"Hello Aunty" said the blond reclining on the divan with a cup of tea and a cashmere through. "I was wondering when you'd get time to come around. Please do have a seat and bring that little monster to me." He said moving to place the tea cup on the little side table, and opened his arms to receive the excited child. However the child was halted a feet away from: a force holding him back.
"You know Draco you are not allowed to lift heavy things and this little boy has certainly grown from the last time you saw him." Andromeda said, plucking little Teddy out of the air and placing him on the sofa beside him. "How have you been?" She asked uncomfortably, this scene was far too reminiscent of the one the one that had played out when she and Teddy had moved in with Harry two months ago.
"Pregnant." Draco sighed "Let me get you some tea." He wiggled around the sofa trying to lift himself up. He was eight months pregnant and didn't look as joyful as he should have.
"No Draco, its alright." She pressed him down into the sofa and moved to the kitchen herself. Rummaging in the kitchen cabinet she found what she was looking for and started making tea. She found some biscuits that were Harry favorite and decided to include them on the tea service. She had grown quite fond of them herself.
Walking back into the drawing room she heard the her grandson conversing with Draco and was for a minute glad that no one can divulge another's pregnancy to anyone. The magic laws forbid it and Teddy won't be able to speak about it without Harry's express permission. Permission that Harry had not granted anyone.
"How was your party little prince?"
"It was great! I had so much fun. Unca Harry had so many games for us to play and there were so many balloons, and Mr. Nott was there too. He took me out to ride the abraxans."
"The Abraxans? I didn't know your Uncle Harry had Abraxans."
"Well he doesn't, but he hired some for the party."
"Hmm that makes sense. So Nott was there too?"
Andromeda's mind drifted away from the conversation. It was not her intention to eaves drop. With her mind, her eyes drifted from one corner of the room to another and she could clearly see little flashes of Harry in the family room. Though he was firm in his belief that he was not really a part of their life, there were little things she could clearly identify as Harry's.
She had noticed the new resolve in Harry after Teddy's party. He was working more, keeping himself busy. He had warded the mansion more tightly then Hogwarts and very few were allowed entrance. The party had also been moved from the mansion to another one of Harry's properties, even though the guest were arriving via portkey and leaving the same way. It was as if Harry wasn't just closing the manor to people but also his heart. He didn't want to see anyone nor interact with anyone. He had also sent Cheryl away. That was one decision she could neither understand nor condone. She worried about him.
"Aunty is something wrong?" the sound of Draco's voice brought her out of her thoughts. "You have been standing in the doorway for a while now."
Andromeda nodded and brought the tea tray to the center table. Helping Draco sit up straight so he could enjoy his tea, she moved back to her armchair with a cup of tea.
"Hows everything?" Draco asked.
"We missed you at Teddy's party. Severus told me what happened. Are you better now?"
"You don't believe him do you?"
"Whatever do you mean?" she hid her face into the tea cup, not wanting to look at him.
"There were some complication with the pregnancy and I was hospitalized for a couple of days. The healers have recommended complete bed rest and they think everything should be fine." Draco paused to take a sip and then looked directly at her "How did Harry take it?"
"He doesn't know about the complications. Severus forbid it. And I can't talk about Harry, since Harry forbid it." Andromeda let out a deep breath as if trying to blow away her frustration with all these men. "I just wish you would all sit together and just talk."
"I do too Aunty. I miss him." There was an odd finality to his statement that worried Andromeda. If he wished to see him why did he not? Was it Severus?
"I can't do that Aunty." He bowed his head and misery "not after what he said." Andromeda had not realized that she voiced her concern out loud.
"What he said? What could he have possibly said to be treated like that?"
"He said that our child will have only one father. It was like he was cursing me or our relationship. That something will happen to me or Severus and our child will be left alone to be raised by one father alone.
"Oh Draco, that's not what he meant. I am sure of it. Oh only if I could tell you." Andromeda stressed. All these young people had made a mess of their lives and she was not allowed to even attempt to fix it.
She hid her face in the palms of her hands and bowed her head for a few seconds, to clear her face of all the pain and anger that Draco would surely see if he looked at her.
"You know where he is don't you?" Draco asked all of a sudden. "Severus has been trying to find out where he is but no one seems know. It is like he disappeared after the party." Draco's eyes beseeched her to speak to him to tell him all she knew, but she couldn't. Her oath to Harry forbid it. "How am I going to sort this out with him if I don't even know where he is?"
She really wanted to tell him, but her magic would not allow it. The words died on her tongue and she sat there opening and closing her mouth like a fish.
"Aunty! Tell me!"
"I can not Draco, I am bound." Before Draco could ask more question or protestant her statement she continued in a calm voice. "I can however, take a letter with me if you are serious about sorting this out."
Draco took in a heavy breath and uttered "I'll mail you something in a day or two."
Andromeda nodded. "How is Severus doing?" she asked, tuning the conversation away from Harry. Oh only if she could tell him Harry is pregnant and that he is not doing all that well. That each day was becoming a struggle for him and that she did not know how long he could go on like this. She could see the fatigue that he tried his best to hide from her, or the slight tremble in his hand and that every fist he made showed Andromeda his struggle to hide his destructive magic.
"He is alright." Draco's less than enthusiastic tone when talking about his fiancé brought her out of her depressing thoughts.
"Whats the matter Draco? Everything alright between you two?"
"I don't know Aunty." Draco ducked his head and it was enough for Andromeda to deduce that there was trouble in paradise.
"Is he not taking care of you? Is he the reason you were hospitalized?"
"No, aunty, he takes good care of me. He's just," Draco paused trying to find the right words to describe his lover "distant lately. Whenever he comes near me it is to make sure that I am doing alright that he fulfilling his duty as the father."
"When did this start Draco?"
"I don't know. It may have been two months or something. At first everything was great and we were planning a wedding together, but I am no longer sure there will be a wedding."
"Draco, you shouldn't stress so much. I am sure that is what is aversely affecting the baby. What did the healers say?"
"They told me to rest and not to stress. Also gave me a list of potion that Severus is taking care of. Only he knows what they are for. I drink what he gives me."
"Hmm" a contemplating silence that followed afterwards. Andromeda wondered what the matter was with Severus. He had everything going for him and his lover loved him beyond anything and any one. Then why was he being so indifferent to his lover's needs. She had thought that after the childhood he'd had and the way his mother was treated, he would be more attentive towards the carrier of his child.
Earlier, when Harry was still with them, she had always thought that Severus was a little more inclined towards Harry. You could see his eyes light up whenever Harry walked into the room and there was always a trace of a smile on his face when Harry was around. Those things were not always there when he looked upon Draco though. It was as if the man was struggling between his two lovers, but for those who really knew him, it was clearly visible who he loved more.
Though the way he treated Harry towards the end; she was no longer sure.
"We were planning to attend the party, you know." Draco said quietly, sipping his tea, he did not even look up. Neither did Andromeda and that's where they left the conversation.
Andromeda changed the topic. She no longer wanted to discuss their love life. She had no right to. It was personal and she was sure Harry would not appreciate her interference. The rest of visit is spent discussing inane things and listening to Teddy chatter.

Author's Note: Sorry everyone for the late update. I am trying to get them out sooner, but sometimes my muse just does not want to work with me. Thank you so much for your patience and still sticking with the story.
You finally have a perspective from both of the hated people, let me know what you think. Remember nobody is mean to be just mean, there is always something going on within themselves to make them act a certain way. Doesn't mean what they did was right or for the right reasons, but to them those reasons were right. They did not do it to be malicious or to get back at Harry for whatever reason. Thats what I am trying to portray. Let me know if I have managed it. Would love to hear back from you.
Thanks for reading :)
