Things had taken an unexpected turn for Claire Redfield.
When she'd traded her freedom and, in her mind, her life, for her brother's, she expected to be kept in a dank cell, with little to no human contact, other than interrogations or the like, or to be tied down to a bed in the labs and be experimented upon like some rodent.
What she got was quite different.
She had expected him to be cold and distant, harsh, cruel, and remote.
She hadn't expected him to be the exact opposite, engaging her in conversations, showing her about the place like a tour guide, joking with her, making her forget who he was, what he'd done.
She hadn't expected feelings to come forwards, and to take part in this.
She told herself it was nothing, that it would disappear. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't ignore it.
So she told him.
How she dreamt of him at night, the two of them entwined.
How her heart ached for his touch.
How his eyes enthralled her, drawing her into their fiery warmth.
How his soft voice eased her thoughts.
And he…
…
He told her...
How she made his heart beat faster than ever before.
How her beauty softened his anger.
How her laugh calmed him after someone had ruined his work.
How he thought about her almost constantly while he was apart from her, longing to be beside her again.
Things weren't supposed to happen this way.
They weren't supposed to fall for the other.
It was forbidden.
It went against everything.
It was just…wrong.
But that didn't stop them.
They say opposites attract, but this is taking it to the extreme.
They were more than opposites.
He was the oval hole in the stand, and she the square block.
They shouldn't fit together.
But they do.
