REVISED! I was rereading this and had the massive urge to make this better! So, here is the result.
Disclaimer: I don't own Death Note. I do own the original character Yuy Sakito.
Chapter 1
Trudging down the street with a black messenger bag slung across his chest, Yuy Sakito silently made his way home from school. He ignored all those around him. At one point, a man bumped into him and glared at him. Sakito said nothing and continued on his way. The world was rotten, in his opinion, but there wasn't much he could do to change it.
Sakito was a fairly normal 17 year old boy. He was top of his class, though many would say that he didn't look like it. For example, his hair was dyed red in streaks through his natural black colour. His bangs hung in varying lengths in front of his face. The rest of his hair hung in varying lengths around his head, though some of it was spiked slightly out to the side. (A/n: I know I didn't explain that very well at all, but think of Yomi's hair from Nightmare's PV for their song 'the WORLD'. Yes, I stole Sakito's name for my character, if you were wondering.) Today, he was wearing black pants that fit snugly around hips and thighs before flaring slightly around his thick soled boots. A silver studded belt wrapped around his hips at an angle. He wore a dark red button up shirt with a black tie around his neck. To complete his look he had a black jacket with dark red accents and silver buckles on the sleeves.
Many people tended to avoid him, either because of his grades, because of the way he dresses, or how anti-social he acted. It didn't bother him though; he preferred to be left alone.
Taking a short cut to his apartment, Sakito turned down an alleyway. Pausing to frown as the sky darkened, he wondered if it was going to storm. It hadn't looked as if it was earlier. Suddenly he heard a noise behind him. He turned his head to look behind him. Eyes widening at what was behind him, he spun around. A man in ragged clothes stood there with a small pocketknife out. Sakito spoke softly and cautiously, "What do you want?"
The man laughed a little hysterically. "I need money, boy. Give me your money."
Sakito shook his head and backed away cautiously. "I don't have any money on me. Why don't you put that knife away?"
Again the man laughed with an insane, hysterical tilt to it. "I know you have money on you, boy! You look like one of those rich kids! You have to give me money!" The man gave an insane giggle. "Well, if you don't want to give me the money willingly, then I'll have take it from your cold dead hands!" He lunged at Sakito, who stumbled back in shock. Tripping, he fell and raised his arms in useless move to defend him.
But, then, the man stopped suddenly. He stumbled and his eyes widened in shock. The knife clattered uselessly to the ground. The man's know empty hands flew up to clutch at his chest. Sakito scrambled back away from the man and stared in shock as he died. It was a heart attack. Was this Kira's timely judgment of the man?
He stood up slowly, intent on leaving the area immediately. It was then, though, that a black object fell from the sky and landed with a thud near him. Confused, he bent to pick it up. He looked up and frowned. The notebook had fallen out of the sky, but that should be impossible. Nothing could appear out of nowhere. He looked down at the notebook to examine it. There was something written on the front. "'Death Note'…" He opened the cover to look through it. There was writing on the inside. "'The human whose name is written in this note shall die.'" He snorted. "A prank of some kind?"
"It is yours now to do as you wish."
Startled out of his thoughts, Sakito whipped around to face whoever had spoken. A great skeletal creature stood before him. He stepped back, wanting to put some distance between him and the creature. "W-Who are you? What are you?"
"My name is Rem. I am a Shinigami."
"Shinigami? What does a Shinigami want with me? And, what do you mean by this Death Note is mine to do what I wish?"
"A Shinigami is not supposed to save life. We exist to kill humans. But a Shinigami, Gelus, had been watching you for some time. When that man attacked you, you were supposed to die. But Gelus killed him, lengthening your life. As Gelus had done what Shinigami are forbidden to do, he died and all his remaining life was transferred to you. I felt that his Death Note should now belong to you. I wrote the rules of the Death Note on the cover so that you would know how the Death Note works and, I am here to give you his Death Note. I am also here to protect you, as per his final wish."
Sakito had not been one to believe such things like Shinigami to exist, but the sight of a Shinigami in front of him was proof that what it said was real. Suddenly, a thought struck him and he looked down at the Death Note. "This is how Kira kills the criminals isn't it?"
The Shinigami, Rem, paused. "I have heard of this individual, and yes this is how he kills the humans. What will you do with the Death Note?"
"I do not know, Rem. For now, I will go home."
DN…DN
Sitting in his apartment, Sakito thumbed through the empty pages of the Death Note. He had read through the rules and was sitting there, thinking. Before him was the same power that Kira used. He believed in the same ideals that Kira did, ridding the world of all the filth that had appeared, but could he kill people the same way that Kira did?
Closing the Death Note he turned to the Shinigami. "Is there anything else I should know about the Death Note, Rem? Something that isn't written in the cover?"
The Shinigami paused before replying. "There are two differences between Shinigami and humans that possess the Death Note. One is that Shinigami receive the years left of a humans life when we write their name in our Death Notes, while humans who use the Death Note do not receive those years. The second thing is that Shinigami can see the names and remaining years of life by just looking at a human." Sakito nodded, but Rem continued before Sakito could say anything. "However, Shinigami can make a deal with the human who possesses the Death Note. The human can gain the Shinigami's eyes at the expense of half of their remaining life."
Sakito paused at this. It could be beneficial if he decided to help Kira. He certainly had enough life to do it if what Rem said was true and he really did get Gelus' remaining life. Should he do it? Should he make the deal? Should he help Kira?
Gazing over at a picture frame on his bedside table, he came to a decision. "I want to make the deal, Rem." He would help Kira in all that he could to get rid of the filth in this world.
DN…DN
Days after deciding to make the deal with Rem to receive the Shinigami Eyes, Sakito sat in front of a small restaurant watching all the people as they walked by. He was still getting used to the Shinigami Eyes. He had decided to help Kira, but that didn't mean he could start off with killing criminals. He needed to help Kira, not get in the way of him. However, it meant that he would have to find Kira. Not even the famous Detective L had managed that yet. So, how would he do that without drawing suspicion to himself?
He knew that Kira lived in Japan, but that didn't narrow things down very much. The easiest way to reach Kira would be over the television. However, he didn't want to reveal that there was another person with the same power as Kira. He frowned. What should he do?
He stood up and walked back towards his apartment. He had an idea. It was possible that L would figure out that there was a second "Kira" but he was willing to take that risk. Hopefully, Kira wouldn't be too mad at him when they met.
When he finally made it back to his apartment, he locked the door and pulled out the Death Note. He turned on his computer and pulled out the internet. He frowned slightly. He would need someone that Kira was less likely to kill soon; otherwise his plan wasn't going to work. He could use lesser criminals for the job. It was another clue towards a second Kira for L, but it was going to have to do.
Having hacked, unseen, into police files, he knew that the police already knew that Kira could control criminals before they died and their time of death. This was a good thing; he wouldn't be giving anything away with this.
He searched through a criminal database, looking for an appropriate victim. H found what he was looking for and he started writing.
Yamada Shouta. Disguising his voice, and using the background of 'Kira', records a message: "This is Kira. My Eyes have sought out the criminals of the world and I have punished them. L has challenged me to kill him, tried to say that he has figured me out. While it is true that I haven't killed you yet, L, how is it that I still pass my judgment on the condemned? Why haven't you caught me, yet? Is it that you are bluffing, L, trying to reassure the masses? It makes no difference, for in the distance I can see the pillar of a new dawn similar to the beginning of the new era of Japan in the Edo era*. You cannot stop me, L. Yet, you probably wonder why it is that I would go through the effort to send you a message. My answer is that not long ago you were so kind as to send me a message, so I thought it would be polite to send you a message in return, late as it may be. My power grows every day and soon I will succeed in making this world a better place." Sends video to the Sakura TV studio. Dies of a heart attack.
Sakito sat back and smiled faintly. He had sent his message without ever having to have direct contact with the video. The police wouldn't be able to trace it back to him.

L sat on the couch at their present hotel room that served as the Kira case headquarters. He had a plate of strawberries on front of him. Picking one up, he glanced over at Raito. The brown haired boy was looking over some evidence they had compiled on the computer. Raito was a new addition to the team and he wanted to get his view on things. Of course, he still believed that Raito was Kira. There was a 3 percent chance he was right.
Suddenly, Matsuda came running into the room. "Turn the channel to the Sakura Channel! They say they have a video from Kira!"
At this, everyone there turned violently to the television. L quickly changed the channel and noted that Raito seemed genuinely surprised as everyone else.
When they changed the channel, the video had just started. It was a grainy video with the name Kira spelled out in the same type of letters that L used when hiding his face in a video. It was clearly mocking him.
A distorted voice spoke. "This is Kira. My Eyes have sought out the criminals of the world and I have punished them." Raito frowned slightly. 'Eyes'? Did this impersonator have a Death Note and the Shinigami Eyes? He had heard the slight inflection on the word. Well, at least this person wasn't so stupid as to make a clue like that obvious. "L has challenged me to kill him, tried to say that he has figured me out. While it is true that I haven't killed you yet, L, how is it that I still pass my judgment on the condemned? Why haven't you caught me, yet? Is it that you are bluffing, L, trying to reassure the masses?" Raito was slightly amazed. This impersonator wasn't stupid, and the words had a vaguely Kira like tone to them. This message was thought out, but what was the point behind it? "It makes no difference, for in the distance I can see the pillar of a new dawn similar to the beginning of the new era of Japan in the Edo era*." Raito frowned again. That line was somewhat out of place; did it contain a hidden message? "You cannot stop me, L. Yet, you probably wonder why it is that I would go through the effort to send you a message. My answer is that not long ago you were so kind as to send me a message, so I thought it would be polite to send you a message in return, late as it may be. My power grows every day and soon I will succeed in making this world a better place."
With that, the video ended and the channel went back to its regular programming. L turned off the television and the assembled task force could only stare at each other. L looked thoughtful. "It's possible we are dealing with a Kira imposter here, but I cannot be sure. There is a 14 percent chance that it is a fake."
The task force expressed their confused feelings. L poked at his lip thoughtfully. He turned to Raito. "What do you think, Raito-kun?"
Raito crossed his arms and was silent for a moment, a slight frown marring his features. "I don't see the original Kira sending out a message like that. From what I've been able to guess at Kira's personality, and what I'm sure you have guessed as well, L, a video like this isn't something that he would do. Instead, we have an impersonator of Kira. But, why would he want to send out a message like this?"
L nodded. "Raito-kun is right; perhaps this impersonator deeply admires Kira and wants to meet him?"
Raito shrugged. "Your guess is as good as mine, but why would a supporter go through these lengths just to meet, Kira?"
L continued to poke at his lip thoughtfully, he then turned to Ukita. "Will you please go retrieve the tape from the studio? We might be able to get prints off the tape and packaging it was in."
Silence fell upon the task force and Raito returned to the evidence he had been going through, but his mind was now completely on the message from the fake Kira. Who would go through this trouble to pose as him, Kira? The person possibly had a Death Note, or at least knew about it and Shinigami. His guess was that they were trying to contact him; he and L had already come at this possible conclusion. What should he do about it? Were they just a supporter and only wanted to meet the great Kira, and the word "eyes" had only been a coincidence? Or did they truly know about the Death Notes and wanted to help him in his mission? If so, would he try to meet with the person? If he was, where did the impersonator want to meet? There was a hidden message in between the lines, but what was it? It was most probably the line, "It makes no difference, for in the distance I can see the pillar of a new dawn similar to the beginning of the new era of Japan in the Edo era."
Pillar of a new dawn… Edo… Perhaps they meant Tokyo with the word 'Edo'. Put 'pillar of the new dawn'? What could that me- Hold on. Raito was struck by a thought. A pillar, most likely a tall structure, somewhere in Tokyo. Probably some sort of landmark. His guess was that it was Tokyo Tower. But, wait. The line was, "In the distance I can see the pillar of the new dawn." So, a place that he could see the Tower in the distance. That narrowed it down some, but it was still a broad range. He supposed that he could walk around the area and hope he got lucky. The other was intelligent, but would be irritating from what he could figure at the moment, but, nonetheless, he would search for them when he wasn't busy. He wasn't in too much of a hurry to find them because L hadn't seemed to catch on that this person may have the same powers as Kira. As long as he could find the impersonator before L it should b fine.

Sakito stared at the mirror in distaste. What he was wearing was definitely not his style at all. But, if he didn't want to be recognized, then he would have to put up with it. Baggy jeans hung low on his hips and a long sleeved plain blue shirt hung on his thin 5 foot 10 frame. A beanie was pulled on his head to mostly hide his hair and glasses with plain glass where perched on his nose. Well, it was the best he was going to get. He left his apartment and wandered off by way of a back alley way so that no one saw him. Rem followed close behind him.
After the video had been aired, Sakito had taken to sitting in a park near Tokyo Tower. He knew that the real Kira was extremely intelligent and would hopefully understand his message. All he had to do was sit at the park and watch all the people who walked by. Hopefully, he would be able to find Kira soon.
Rem had told him that for those that owned a Death Note, only their names would show above their heads visible to his Shinigami Eyes, not the numbers of their lifespan like everyone else. With that information in mind, Sakito watched for the person with only the name. That person would be Kira.
So far he did have much luck, he mused as he finally sat down on a bench. He would stretch out there for awhile, supposedly listening to music on his music player, oblivious to the outside world. Occasionally he would walk to a new bench.
Watching as a young couple walked by, Sakito hoped that he would find Kira soon. He was getting extremely bored of sitting on the bench day in and day out. Suddenly, a young brown haired man came into his vision. He looked to be the same age as him and was wearing a light brown jacket. He seemed perfectly normal, but what had captured Sakito's eye was that the boy only had his name hanging above his head.
Hiding a grin a victory, he took note of the man's name. He had found Kira. Yagami Raito.
DN…DN
There was a knock on the door of the Yagami household. Raito ignored it and continued to write names down in the Death Note. But then he heard his mother calling for him. "Raito-kun! There's a young man here for you!"
Frowning, Raito hid the Death Note and walked down the stairs. It was at this point that Raito's mother excused herself to finish making dinner. The young man was standing in front of the closed front door. He looked about the same age as he. He quickly appraised his looks and clothes. He was wearing slightly baggy black pants with buckles on the side. A tight dark emerald shirt barely covered his torso and a tight black sleeveless jacket was worn over it, held together in one spot by a buckle near the middle of his chest. A single black band was wrapped around his arm.
Raito raised an eyebrow. "Yes? I'm sorry but I don't recognize you."
"I am Yuy Sakito."
Sakito, then, made sure no one else was there to overhear, and bent closer to Raito. He whispered, "Shinigami have notebooks don't they?"
Raito's eyes widened ever so slightly. "Let's discuss this in my room shall we?"
Sakito nodded and Raito lead his way up to his room. He offered for Sakito to sit in the desk chair. Raito then closed and locked the door. He turned to Sakito. "What do you know?"
"You are Kira. Shinigami exist. There are objects called Death Notes that can be used to kill people."
Raito narrowed his eyes. "How do you know that I am Kira?"
Sakito smirked, "Well, if I didn't know for sure before, you just gave yourself away. But, luckily for you, I already knew. I am the supposed Kira that sent that video to the media, if you hadn't already figured that out."
Raito scowled at him, but nodded. "I figured as much, but how did you know I am Kira. And, what do you want?"
"I want to help you in making a better world, one that isn't rotten. I knew that I needed to find you first before I acted to make sure I didn't get in your way. As for how I know you are Kira? I saw you at a park and noticed that I couldn't see your lifespan, only your name. With your name I could find where you lived, you do have a unique name you know."
Raito frowned. "Only my name? What do you mean by that?"
"Haven't you figured that out? I have the Shinigami Eyes. I can see the names and lifespan of every person I see, except for those who own Death Notes. Since you have a Death Note, I can only see your name." Sakito grinned and leaned back in the desk chair. "I agree with your ideals and I want to help you. I know you don't have the Shinigami Eyes, so I can be your eyes for you. However, I won't be your pawn and I won't be manipulated. If you try to do that, I will write your name in my Note. I want to rid the world of filth, but I won't be a servant or a pawn. And even if you try to get rid of me, then I'm sure Rem will get to you first. She's very attached to me. I don't want to get in your way, Kira, but if my life is at stake then I will kill you if I have to."
Raito's eyes darkened, but he kept his cool. "Very well, but who is Rem?"
Sakito wordlessly held out his Death Note for Raito to touch, revealing the Shinigami to him. In turn, Raito revealed Ryuk to Sakito.
They were both silent for a few moments, each assessing the other. Raito finally spoke. "The video, it cannot be traced back to you I hope?"
The black haired boy looked vaguely insulted. "I'm not stupid, Raito-kun. I used my Death Note to force a criminal into making the video for me before he died of a heart attack. That way, I got my message to you, but I was not in any way connected with the tape and it couldn't be traced back to me. My only regret is that it will possibly alert L to the fact that there is another person with the same powers as Kira."
Raito looked a little irritated at the revelation, but understanding. "L might know to look for a second Kira, probably will, but it was necessary I suppose. I cannot fault you for it."
Sakito nodded gratefully. "You will allow me to help you won't you, Raito-kun?"
Raito nodded. "You are very irritating, but I believe that together we will make this world a better place."
Sakito smirked. "Irritating? You wound me, Raito-kun. But think of it this way, working together, intelligent as we are, we can prevent each other from making mistakes." He then stood up. "We will first have to find a way to get rid of L, yes? He's the major obstacle in only that his intelligence could lead him to us if left alone for too long. That man seems unnaturally observant."
Raito nodded in agreement. "I have met him already. I know his face, but not his real name."
Sakito tapped his lips thoughtfully with a slender finger. "I do have the Shinigami Eyes, you know. But, that almost seems too easy, you know? Why not just stay within and play a little longer?"
Raito smirked. "I'm sure we will get along just fine."
Sakito grinned back at him. "Good. Because I'm beginning to like you, so you are stuck with me for awhile whether you like it or not."
Raito wondered if that was a good or bad thing. He a sneaking suspicion that his life was going to be interesting from no one, connected to Kira or not.

Do you know how hard it is to write a genius? This story is going to be interesting to write I reckon… I didn't really like how the ending turned out, and I'm not sure I portrayed Raito quite correctly. I didn't want to get rid of L right away anyways. So, yes, Sakito will meet him, but L is not going to die right after. But that's all I'm going to give away for now!
So, how do you like the idea? There is possible yaoi in the future, though I'm not sure. And, please note that if you don't like that I'm possibly putting some yaoi in here, DON'T FREAKIN FLAME ME OVER IT! Thank you. Now, depending on how many positive reviews I get over this idea, I may just write the next chapter sooner than later. So, if you really want me to write the next chapter, please review.
*You have no idea how hard it was to pick the right thing to say. It's hard to write about a genius when the author (aka me) is no genius. I'm no expert on Japanese culture so I hope I wasn't making any mistakes. But Edo was the original name of Tokyo right? And the Edo era was the dawn of a new era in Japan right? PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!
