I apologize in advance for how short this chapter is, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

EPOV

Uncle Carlisle's comment about seeing a therapist had set my day off in the wrong direction. All day I found myself in a foul mood and sneaking off to go smoke. Hell I spent all of lunch period outside smoking in my car. At this rate I would be lucky if I had a cigarette left for the drive home.

The bell buzzed and I made my way out in to the crowded hall. People parted and stared as I passed them. Their stares and whispers stopped bothering me a long time ago. Freshmen would ask about me and the upperclassmen had no problem telling them all about my life. Too bad they had it all wrong. Even my cousin couldn't tell you what had happened that night. They only people who knew were my parents and my sister. Only one of them was still here and I doubted he so much as gave me a second thought.

My brooding left me dragging my feet and I found my way into Mr. Gruber's class just as the bell was about to ring. I made my way to my seat at the back of the class and plopped my books on the lab table, ignoring my lab partner's soft 'hello'. I had no desire for human interaction of any sort. Not today. Not ever. Instead I focused on taking notes.

Gruber turned on the dusty overhead projector and began writing. "Today we are going to be talking about Ohm's Law. Does anyone know what his law was?" He waited a minute before continuing when no one raised their hands. " Okay…" he began to write again. "Ohm's Law deals with the relationship between voltage and current in an ideal conductor. The relationship states that the potential difference, known as the voltage, across an ideal conductor is proportional to the current through it. You'll want to write that down. I promise you that will be on next week's quiz." Gruber pushed his glasses up his nose. "The constant of pro-" he was interrupted by a knock at the door.

He went to the door and returned a few minutes later with a frown. "The rest of class will be independent learning. I want you and your partner to go through the Chapter 18 in your books and take notes on anything you think is important. We'll go over everyone's notes in class tomorrow. I'm needed in the gym for something." He picked sat his marker on the desk and left without another word.

I flipped open my book and began reading, jotting random things down as I went. A few minutes passed in silence before I heard Bella start to tap her pen on her notebook. Something I had noticed that she does when she's in deep thought. After five minutes of the consistent tap tap tap I groaned and put my own pen down. "Do you mind?"

The tapping stopped. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't even realize I was doing it."

Yeah right. How do you not notice something like that? "It's fine." I said courtly. I went back to my reading just to be interrupted again.

"Um, Edward?"

I sighed and put my pen down again. I looked over at her in annoyance. Her long brown hair was pulled up today. "What?" I tried to ignore how she was biting her lower lip.

She hesitated, most likely picking up on my annoyance. "Could we possibly compare notes?" she looked down at her notebook in frustration again.

"Sure, whatever." I tossed her my notebook and went back to reading.

After what felt like forever, the bell rang, signaling the end of another boring day of school for the typical high school student. I didn't wait for Bella to finish writing something down before I snatched my notebook off the lab table and rushed out the door. I needed another cigarette. Bad.

I know, I know, Edward smokes waaaay too much. Sorry. He gets better, I promise :)
