I chose the subject of this poem by doing a random page on Maplewiki. The "Right Around Lith Harbor" page came out.

This is a poem about a beginner's thoughts of the world before going to get his first job. Aw, man, he doesn't know what he's in for. I hope you enjoy the feeling that this poem gives you, anyway. Done in about 11 minutes.

Right Around Lith Harbor

Breathe in the aroma on the wind

A tang of salt, seawater, fresh breeze?

More than just that!

I can feel it, smell it, hear it, sense it with all my heart and spirit—

Adventure! Plain, pure, waiting.

-

It's more than just a sense,

It's something, an atmosphere that surrounds me,

Now, and again as I look down the path

To the gateway beyond the thickets,

To next path of my journey

-

It's beautiful, this feeling—

The feeling that there's a world waiting for me there,

Waiting to take my footsteps and show the way of my life,

Waiting to give all that it can give.

-

I am waiting too—I have been

Since I began training, preparing to explore,

Learning to use weapons, growing stronger

Just to be ready for the world beyond Lith Harbor.

-

Oh, when I finally become strong enough to go!

I'll weave my story upon the grounds not yet visited

By my questing spirit, my fresh smile—

Meet friends and adversaries, with

My weapon and skills to guide my pen

As I grow up in power and unwrap more of this gift,

This world presented to me at my doorstep.

-

I'll have to wait, I guess.

I'm still down at the bottom of the great ladder of life,

Killing snails for a living and wielding nothing but a club.

But someday, the snails will be balrogs

The club will be a blue marine

And I will be a new power in the shifting world.

-

Just wait for me!

I will come forth someday; my story will be a novel,

And the gift of the world will finally come unwrapped in my hands.

-

Someday;

I can already feel it on the wind!
