A/N: After reading chapter 320 of Bleach, I absolutely had to write something on this pairing! So here's my try at Gin/Izuru! Also, Gin may be a little OOC. I think that he may act a little diffferently when he's alone with Kira, so I tried to implement that. It's probably epic fail though.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Bleach. That belongs to the amazing Kubo-sensei.
It was the worst of feelings. The most awful of feelings, to have the person most important to you slip away.
Kira Izuru knew this pain well.
He hadn't suspected Gin of anything, he never did. He had a sound trust in the man, one that seemed to be unbreakable. He had formed a bond with him that had withstood years and years… as Taicho and Fukutaicho.
He didn't know when that bond turned to friendship.
Gin had come outside to sit with Izuru when the blonde couldn't sleep.
"Ah, what's wrong Izuru? Di'ja have a nightmare?"
Izuru blushed and looked at his Taicho wide-eyed. "N—no sir!" He stuttered.
Gin chucked to himself. "You know, you're a bad liar Izuru-chan."
Izuru felt his face heat up even more as he looked away from his Taicho and down to his hands, his fingers twisted rather uncomfortably in his lap.
"Ah, Izuru, you know I'm just kidding," the older blonde said, swinging an arm over the smaller man's shoulder playfully.
Izuru relaxed a little under Gin's touch. "I'm sorry for disturbing you, Taicho," he said, his eyes still downcast.
Gin laughed and patted his Fukutaicho on the back. "Its fine, Izuru! I just wanna make sure my favorite member of the division is Okay!"
Izuru looked up at Gin and smiled.
And… he didn't know when the friendship turned into love.
Gin's fingers laced with Izuru's as the pair sat in the courtyard of the third squad's barracks.
The Fukutaicho leaned back and rested his head on the worn wood of the floor behind him. Gin followed suit, resting his head next to the shorter man's.
"It's pretty, huh?" Izuru said, looking up at the stars.
Gin chuckled a bit to himself and squeezed the blonde's hand. "Yeah, it is," he replied.
Izuru smiled and turned over to face his Taicho. Gin looked over at him, a questioning look on his face.
"What is it?" He asked.
Izuru smiled and scooted over to bury his face inside the crook of Gin's neck. "Nothing…," he murmured, breathing in the elder shinigami's scent. "I just... thank you. For being here."
Gin smiled, and placed a kiss on top of a blonde head. "You're welcome."
Izuru walked inside his former Taicho's office. He shuddered. It's like he never left… He thought to himself bitterly. And he was right. Everything was the same.
When Gin had first been found a traitor, the Sou-taicho wanted for all evidence of him to be removed from the third division. Izuru had gone to him personally and asked to let him be in charge of the third division's quarters alone. Reluctantly, he agreed.
So, by Izuru's wishes, the third division's Taicho office was left untouched. No one was allowed in except the blonde Fukutaicho, who visited the place often.
It still smells like him, he thought, gently touching some papers strewn across Gin's former desk.
Izuru could feel a lump in his throat starting to form. "Dammit…" Izuru muttered, bringing his hand to his face. "What the hell did I do, dammit!"
The blonde fell to his knees, tears streaming down his face. "Why? Why did you go?"
Izuru cursed inwardly at himself as he struggled to stop the flow of tears coming from his eyes. He loved him, and he left. There was nothing he could do about that. But what he hated was the fact that after all Gin had put his through, after going through a living hell, he was still in love with his Taicho.
"I love you… why can't you see that?"
