Pulse

The first time it happened they been alone in the woods with only the trees and a moon to watch while they lay out beneath the sky eating dinner and drinking a dark red wine Boq had smuggled out of Fiyero's room a day earlier. Nessa was laughing at the ball room antics of Tibbett and Crope while Boq was attempting to retell a story of dashing dates, boys in dresses, and an unfortunate group of women who'd gotten in the way of the two terrors at a dance. The girls had been stunning, according to Boq, and Nessa believed him. They'd been wearing red dresses, curled hair, and had the air of society about them which only drawn Tibbett and Crope to them faster. Nessa was relaxed and looking at Boq with her arms behind her for support, and, when Boq ran his eyes down her body from her broken feet to her laughing eyes, he swallowed.

"They, um, these girls were just standing there in shock that this man could actually be choosing another man over them for a dance, and Tibbett enjoyed the entire thing. I think Crope was upset that he got roped into trying on that one girl's dress, but it was hilarious." Nessa reached out and held her glass out to Boq, and he returned the favor by gently tapping his empty glass against Nessa's half empty wine glass. It was as she leaned over him to grip the wine bottle that Boq let his eyes slide down her body again: the curve of her should under her Shiz uniform, the indention of hip bones visible through her skirt, and the tips of her unmoving toes barely visible in the darkness. A strand of hair fell from the unraveled bun she'd pulled it back into and curled around her neck landing on nook of her collar bone. He swallowed. "Nessa?"

"Yes?" She turned her head up, and Boq felt her nose bump his nose, but his eyes were focused on the strand of hair curled around her neck. His fingers traced their way from her ear to her shoulder as he gently pulled at the curl of hair. Nessa's eyelids fluttered close as her eyes rolled back, and she sighed. Her hair was an even darker shade of brown in the night, and Boq found that he could not take his eyes off of it as Nessa's back arched.

'This isn't right…I'm supposed to wait until I kiss Galinda…"

Boq didn't realize he'd leaned forward until he felt Nessa's pulse jump under his lips, and he tightened his grip on her strand of hair. His lips trailed from the spot right below her jaw bone to the curve where her neck became her shoulder until he had to compete with her blouse for control over the area. Instead, Boq began to trail the kisses from her left shoulder to her right with his other hand sliding around her waist. Nessa moaned this time, and her right hand pressed into her chest.

"Boq, what are you doing?"

"I'm kissing you." His lips never left her right shoulder as he trailed his way back up to her neck until he felt her pulse jump under his lips again but faster this time. She shifted under his hands so that her body fell against his chest, and she slid her hand in between the buttons of his school shirt.

"Then really kiss me." Boq let her pulse beat beneath his mouth thrice more before bringing his lips up to hers. He stopped only inches away. "Please Boq." She smiled slightly. "I want you to be my first kiss." And so he was. Lips pressed against her mouth, Boq struggled to stop his fingers from twitching as he felt the heat of Nessa's mouth spread throughout his body.

Later that night, Boq could feel her pulse flutter beneath his lips in a rapid staccato of random beats, and it was the best feeling in the world.
