Disclaimer: I do not own Fullmetal Alchemist or any of the characters and likenesses thereof. This is a fan-made work created purely for entertainment, and I am not in any way affiliated with the author or publishers. In other words: It's not mine! I'm just having fun with it!

A/N: Welcome to my readers, new and old! We need more realistic EnWin fics on here! This can be interpreted as anime or manga-verse. Either will do. Anyway, enjoy and review!

He was fascinated, fascinated by the way she smiled, looked at the world with bright, optimistic eyes, fixed things in a world that seemed obsessed with breaking them. She laughed, she smiled, she danced, she was innocent. He hated her.

She was fascinated, fascinated by the way his glinting eyes met her gaze through the window, perched, birdlike, on her windowsill, the moonlight outlining his curious profile. He sat, stared, grinned with a flash of unnaturally sharp teeth, hypnotic like the gaze of a serpent. She feared him.

He was fascinated, fascinated by the way she stared him in the eyes, the strange mix of fear and curiosity. Her hand grasped the sheets into a tight little bundle, working with fearful anticipation. The adrenaline that was quickly coursing into her veins was almost a detectable odor, and yet she did not run. After all, she knew he was a monster. She could not outrun him. The Fullmetal Pipsqueak was not around either, so no prince would come to rescue her. He saw all these thoughts and more running though her mind. He scorned her.

She was fascinated, fascinated by the way he laughed, mesmerized by the expression of what her innocent nature immediately recognized as true evil. He hated her, hated her because she was happy and innocent. He could never be this himself, and so he took it out on people who were. It chilled her to the core, where a frozen hand grasped and twisted her gut in much the same way her hand twisted her sheets. She detested him.

He was fascinated, fascinated by the way she dared to hate him. She was free, she was brave, she was insolent. She was something he could never defeat, no matter what he did to her, no matter how she screamed. He could see this in her eyes. Funny, what one could tell from a human's eyes. He feared her.

She was fascinated, fascinated by the way she saw his bravado shake, the way her very stare made him shiver with some deep, horrible emotion. He stared, he squirmed, he looked down, he dropped from the windowsill and out of sight. He was afraid of something natural, at the same time attracted to and repulsed by something completely alien to his nature. He could never be what she was, and this made him quake with that strange emotion she couldn't quite put a name to. She pitied him.

He was fascinated, fascinated with her every move, her every word, her slightest glance or smallest sigh. He worshiped her and detested her in the same breath. She was alluring and, at the same time, terrifying. They were nothing alike, yet he was what every person like her could become. He wanted so badly to destroy her, and yet, when the opportunities came, she always destroyed him. He could always kill her, but never defeat her… and that made it all pointless. What could he do? She had nothing to poke and prod. Even her family members were only auxiliary to her goodness, not a part of her he could murder. He loved her, he hated her, he abhorred her, he needed her. She was nothing to him, and at once everything. She was his obsession…

He envied her.

A/N: You know the drill. Review! I need to know how I did with the characters, and reviews boost my low self-esteem, really! Review!
