When people walk into the streets, they hear noise; bright, wonderful noise full of voices, sounds, and color.

But when Hinata walks into the streets, all she hears are whispers. Eyes follow her every step, her very breath is tracked by these shadowed strangers and in place of noise, she hears voices; cold, empty voices.

"She's the next leader of the Hyuuga clan?"

"She likes him?!"

She knows these whispers; knows these doubts—can feel them sting places where it shouldn't sting, shouldn't ache. She knows that she isn't fit to be the clan head. She knows that she shouldn't like him, that every fiber of his being screams the opposite of hers. Her elders shrink in disgust at him.

"He isn't good for you."

"That demon will never enter these gates."

"You should go after that nice Uchiha man. He's available."

She knows these things are true, knows they follow the crisp clean logic needed for a land paved in politics and rules. She knows that what she needs is not a loud, brash boy, but a quiet man who will protect her and though he may not love her, will at least be sympathetic.

But…

Isn't it okay to dream? Isn't it okay to want things bigger than yourself? To want noise, to want color. See things in a broader perspective; speak her mind like he does. She loves him. She loves his energy, his tenacity. They are all the things she doesn't have and she wants to be him! To see the world through his eyes, those bright blue, cerulean eyes and dare to be loud and see the colors and hear that wonderful noise!

So maybe he isn't what she needs. So maybe what she needs is someone like her, someone quiet and patient, who can protect her. But isn't it okay for her to want things? To dream the impossible dream. It isn't fair that men get everything they want, because don't women have the same aspirations as they do?

So maybe she does like a loud, brash boy. So maybe she doesn't want a political marriage to a man who she barely knows, but will at least keep her company. So what does it matter?

Because it isn't always what a girl needs that's the most important. Sometimes, it's what a girl wants.

Just a short random drabble that popped out of my mind after seeing a SasuHina picture of dev. I mean, I understand where SasuHina can come from, but most of the people that I know who support Narusaku are guys, so I was wondering what Hinata would think, because, well, shouldn't a girl have the opportunity to end up with the guy of her dreams too?
