This takes place the night before Scion of the Shredder.
Disclaimer: Do I own any mutated turtles in their teens who happen to be ninjas? Ummm, nope.
Leonardo only stared at her.
The whole balance, the intricate inner workings of the world, must be completely off. Reality must be mistaken. A veil slipped over its eyes and soothing whispers clouding its mind.
Cold fury papered his eyes; no other emotion was visible.
There had always been a fine line in between good and bad, honorable and dishonorable. If all it had taken was a simple betrayal, the line was finer than it was previously thought to be. Karai could not help but muse that maybe she had just beaten Leonardo to the punch. She was dishonorable before him. It was only now that Leonardo would ever do something dishonorable. At least she beat him at something.
In his strong hand, Karai's katanna was held.
Karai wondered if it would be cowardly for her to not look at him when the time came for her to end. Could she look away just this once?
"Come on, Karai," Leo spat her name, "care to taunt me? Tell me what would your father say? Mock me."
Karai found no words.
"Why don't you beg for your life? Or is it not worth begging for?"
Was her life worth begging for? She didn't know anymore. Her master, her surrogate father, was banished to some far off rock in space, and she betrayed the only friend she might have had. Was there anything to beg for? Was her life meaningless?
"Why don't you say something?
Karai found Leonardo's eyes right where she left them, still cold. "I don't think you will kill me."
"Well, you are too kind, Karai. Much too kind," he laughed coldly at Karai's reaction to the words she spoke to him that night. "Do you really think I believe in honor now?"
He had to…
"After what you did to my family, you don't deserve to live." The steel of her own katanna wielded not by her own hand entered her chest. She screamed as the pain shot through her body.
He only stared at her.
Karai woke up, shivering. He is not here. The turtles' lair will be hers tomorrow; the invasion will be successful. Dreaming was so pointless. She pulled the blanket up beneath her chin and willed away the bad dream.
It was only a bad dream.
