I let Alice stroke my hair as I lay on Edward's bed. Well, my bed. She was murmuring into my ear, trying to soothe me, but all I could to was cry. I hadn't known this was possible, never would have thought it could happen.. but it did. And when Edward had found out, he had freaked, and left the house in a rage.

"Bella, he just needs time to think." Alice's chime-like voice rang into my ear. I heard a new voice float into the room. "Edward won't leave you again, Bella. He wouldn't be able to live without you. Trust me, I felt the feelings he had the first time." I looked up to see Jasper cringing at the feelings of hurt I was sending out. He frowned at me, and then I felt calmer. I wiped my hands over my tear-streaked face and sent any loose tears flying.

"Thank you, Jasper." I whispered, curling up into a ball and digging my face into the bed. I knew Alice and Jasper were talking about me, using the fact that my human ears couldn't hear their hurried whispers to their advantage. Alice's tiny fingers continued to stroke the top of my head, and after a few minutes her gentle, ringing voice was murmuring into my ear again.

I stayed this way for hours, and Alice stayed with me the whole time. Jasper occasionally had to leave, to get away from the hurt feelings flowing off my body. Esme came in every so often, offering me food, and even though my stomach was crying with hunger, I refused. Carlisle came in a lot, making me lay on my back so he could examine my stomach, then he'd walk out muttering to himself. Emmett came in every 30 minutes, trying to cheer me up, but it didn't work. Even Rosalie came in, her usual glare replaced with a look of sorrow and worry. She even held my hand while I cried, and her murmuring voice joined Alice's.

Something was wrong, I could tell. My new family was trying to hide something from me, but I didn't want to know. I just wanted to sulk.

When I had finally cried myself out, and I was sitting up on the bed, staring out the window, Carlisle walked in, and he had a serious expression on his face.
