Author's Note: This is my first Gokusen fanfiction. Please read and review. I actually really like this, which is strange for me. I think it's because my own views of Barbies may or may not be reflected by this piece. Anyway, seeing as I'm writing this at 4am I should finish and go to bed.

Barbies

Shin remembers going to a toy store with his mother once. All the new packages glistened and while he distinctly remembers turning down the police car toy his father showed him, he doesn't remember what he decided on getting that particular day. But he does remember walking by all the aisles that were filled with what looked like pink and purple blobs. He asked his mother about them later, she said that they were the aisles with the girl's toys. This fascinated him. Girls and boys had different toys? Were the girl's ones better? Had he been gipped this entire time and he hadn't known it? He resolved to find out at the next available time.

The next time he went to the toy store he made sure to go down those pink and purple aisles. He was disappointed however, the aisles only held wands and costumes and dolls. He was hoping for something better than that. One aisle he walked down held only dolls. They were all packaged in pink boxes with same looks on their faces. As he looked closer, they were all the same doll. The only difference between them was the clothes that they wore. It creped him out a little bit. It was like they were all twins, all the same, with the same thoughts and ideas and hopes and dreams, the same everything except for clothes. He quickly walked out of the aisles and vowed to never return there. That time he remembers he got a set of Legos.

Later, at school, he saw a girl playing with her, what he now knew to be called, Barbie doll. The first day she had it, she brushed its hair lovingly and proudly showed her off to all of her friends. As the week progresses he sees less and less of the doll until finally, on Friday, one of her friends brings in their new doll. Her Barbie, now laid forgotten in her backpack, hair all tangled, half her clothes on, and paint chipping off in various places. It disturbed him, that something that use to look new and good could so quickly start looking worn and torn.

It wasn't until he was in middle school that he finally realized why the Barbies disturbed him so much. They were just like all the girls he knew. The same personalities, the same looks, the same way of thinking, all of it. The only difference again was their clothes. Much like the girl he saw back in elementary school with her doll, these girls would join up in little clicks and without a moment's notice, would throw someone out. He feared these girls. If they did that to one of their own, what would they do to him? The moment they found someone better they would just kick him aside and upgrade. Wouldn't they?

So he decided that if girls were like that then he had no reason to be interested in them, no matter what they looked like. Then he met Yankumi. She was different than the rest of them. Not only did she never judge him or his classmates on how they looked she also always trusted them, no matter what. He knew when he saw her that she was different, that she wasn't like those other girls. His belief was only cemented when he found out that she had always played with the Legos too.
