Socks
An icy moon glowed in the clear November sky. Despite the lack of clouds, there was no other light in the sky besides the moon's weak radiance. Down on the ground, however, the concrete was illuminated by a blanket of warm yellow light from the streetlamps.
However, the boy breaking into a small house attached to a certain shop could not care less about the level of light. Of course, he could steal anything undetected, no matter how bright it was.
He was, after all, the King of Thieves.
Bakura pushed opened the window effortlessly before slipping into the bedroom of a king of a different sort… or at least the king's host. The tri-colored boy was sleeping soundly in his bed, along with the rest of the sane residents of Domino. (Fortunately for Bakura, he was not in the least bit sane.)
The Tomb Robber glanced around the room, taking it in. This was the first time he had seen it. He was pleased to find it perfectly non-descript. There was a desk, bed, dresser, everything you'd expect to find in a bedroom. Of course, there were a few hints as to the interests of it's resident. There was a deck of Duel Monsters on the dresser…
…And there was the Puzzle lying on a side table.
Bakura blinked. He would have thought Yuugi would wear it to bed with him, although Bakura could see why he wouldn't— the boy was probably reasonably paranoid about it impaling his chest. It would be so convenient to just take it now…
No. Tonight, he was here for a different purpose… Of course, he could take a side trip…
No! He came here to test and sharpen his skills as a thief. As odd as it was to think, the Puzzle could wait.
Bakura slowly lifted up the covers… and proceeded to attack Yuugi's feet.
"Hey!" Yuugi cried in surprise.
'Huh? What is it aibou?' Yami said sleepily, woken up at Yuugi's exclamation. He blinked to find his host had torn his bedclothes off nearly to the foot of the bed, and was frantically searching the area.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to wake you, Yami. I guess I was a bit surprised to find my sock missing."
'Sock…?'
Yuugi pulled both feet up, displaying them to the spirit. His left foot donned a light yellow sock, but the right one was bare.
"I guess I kicked it off during the night. But I can't seem to find it anywhere… I'm sure it's fine, though! It'll turn up later." Yuugi added, seeing a suspicious look growing over his other's features.
'Bakura.' Yami frowned.
"Huh?" Yuugi blinked.
'It's Bakura's fault. It must be. He stole your sock, aibou!'
Yuugi chuckled nervously. "Yami, did you hear what you just said? This sort of thing happens all the time, and besides… why would he want my sock?"
'I… don't know…' Yami admitted sheepishly. 'But still! He did it just to annoy us!'
Yuugi shook his head. "I have a bunch of socks identical to this, yami. Besides, if he stole something to annoy us… wouldn't it be something of at least some value? One used sock couldn't be worth more than a few yen, if that."
'But…'
"Bakura doesn't do anything without a purpose. And you admitted yourself you couldn't think of a reason why Bakura would do this. So just let it go, okay? It's still here somewhere, I just have to forget about it and it'll show up in a few days."
'I still think he did it.' Yami mumbled.
Ryou moaned as he woke up. He shivered at the cool morning air, pulling the blankets closer.
In doing so, he found something that wasn't usually there.
Ryou wrinkled his nose as he pulled himself to a sitting position, eyeing the small yellow object in his hand.
"Yami… why am I holding a sock?"
Author's note: Heehee, that was fun~ It was inspired by something that happen to me... except my sock wasn't stolen. I did find it by my pillow, though, which was weird to say the least... Anyway, hope you liked!
