Gundam Seed Immortal Prequel 2

2 years after the battleā€¦

Jeffery sat alone in a park in ORB. He was growing used to being alone and to facing himself alone. At 14 years old it was tough to find himself without much to believe in anymore. He wanted so much to find his way but his parents were never there anymore, the world had changed and with that change they had new responsibility. He was but a child yet he was forced to grow up. He alone knew what he was going to have to do but he knew it would cause him to drift.

He had a chance now to change things and he felt honor bound to make that decision. Sometimes he wished he could just open up and tell the people he cared about what he was feeling but they would never understand. He wondered if they would ever know what he had endured in the dark of the aftermath of ROW. He had done his best to seem strong when inside he was falling apart and sometimes he wondered if that was the right decision. He had no one he could go to at this moment. No one he could ask about what he was feeling. Tears were in his eyes at the emptiness he was feeling and he wondered if the path before him would free him from those feelings.

Jeffery Zala should have been able to step up when his brother had died. In the eyes of the world he did for one brief moment but after that he alone knew how quickly it all feel to pieces. How he longed to see Uzumi again, to ask his brother if he had made the right decision. It was then that he heard a voice in front of him.

"Jeffery?" a female voice, one he hadn't heard in two years. He looked up to see Nessara standing in front of him. She had grown since he last saw her, she was different somehow. He was a little surprised, he had heard that she and her family had moved away from ORB. That was a sad moment for him. He had just lost his brother and then his best friend vanished from his life. At this moment he wondered if fate had brought her here, for he needed someone to speak to.

"Nessara," he spoke wiping the tears from his eyes, "what are you doing in ORB?" She smiled faintly but it was still a slight smile. There was pain in her eyes and he realized she must have suffered a lost.

"The terrorist attacks in eastern Europe," Nessara said sitting down next to him even though he hadn't exactly invited her. She could read that he needed someone as much as her right now. "I was there with my family, my parents were killed. We came back to ORB to live with our grandparents, Alicesia and I. She's thrown herself into military school and is rarely around. This morning I was wondering if you still came here, and I was happy to see you." He felt the weight of what she said. She spoke about the loss in such a mature way, he had not expected that from her.

"I'm sorry for your loss," Jeffery spoke solemnly, "I had no idea." Nessara shook her head.

"It's okay," she responded, "I am getting through it, I found some people who are helping me. Alicesia is not doing well though, she is angry and I don't know what to do to help her." He understood that, from experiencing loss himself.

"It's a natural reaction to want to change things," Jeffery said.

"What about you?" Nessara asked, she could always tell when things weren't right. "What's eating you up? You look like the world just stopped spinning and you can't do anything about it." He shook his head.

"The opposite," he responded, "I wish I could talk to Uzumi more than ever. My parents are always at the UCN meetings and things are getting worse every day. This world isn't right and I've been given a chance to help change things, the problem is I can't decide what to do. If I take the chance that has been presented to me then I risk drifting away from my family but I can't just sit here and do nothing." She put a hand on his shoulder.

"Jeffery," she spoke softly as she always did, "your family is all you have left. If you loose them then what else is there in life?" He looked at her as the war within him escalated.

"But if I do nothing I could still loose them to the chaos of what is unfolding around us," Jeffery replied as he felt his heart torn apart, "I have to choose between the lives of my family and their relationship with me. I can't become Uzumi, I'm nothing like him." Nessara shook her head.

"No Jeffery," she said to him, "no one has ever asked you to be Uzumi. Your family loves you for being Jeffery and for what it's worth I think Uzumi would be proud of what you have become. I can't tell you what he would say now but I believe that you should trust your instincts. If you have a chance to stop the chaos, and that is what you want to throw yourself into, I say take it. For the world is worth nothing if we loose it because we were too stupid to do anything about it." He still felt the war within him but with her words his resolve strengthened.

"I'm glad your back," Jeffery said to her, "you could always say what I needed to hear." She smiled at that, he was different but she was glad that he was still here.

"No matter what Jeffery," she responded to his words, "I will always be here for you. If you find yourself in need of someone to talk to, I've heard I'm good at talking." She laughed a little at herself. It was good to hear her laugh. Deep down, Jeffery knew he would count on her in the future. She would be his anchor when the struggle took it's toll.
