Edo stretched his neck a little higher, training his eye casually on Sho, "How's Ryo?"
"Fine, thank you," Sho said softly. He'd never cared for Edo; as far as he could tell, the pro was a sneaky and self-serving bastard. The unusual scapegoat of Sho's mind, he had never been forgiven for many things that were not his fault.
"His health's good?"
Sho stiffened. "That's none of your business." His conscience dwindled as he remembered that the two were friends. "He's fine though, really."
Edo nodded approvingly. "Tell him to give me a call sometime. I'd like to see him." He paused, already having walked halfway to his yacht. A small smile lit his face, secret laughter in his eyes. "You can come if you'd like."
Sho frowned. He didn't like people who joked that way.
"Johan Anderson!" The lanky brunette clapped his old friend on the shoulder, "Do you remember me?"
"Of course I do," Johan said, his voice full of the suave conversational skills that he'd picked up, "You're Fubuki Tenjoin." He smiled, shaking the other's hand, "How've you been?"
"Alright, I guess. Would you like to have drinks with me?"
"Sure. I can't stay long though, Judai's waiting for me in Domino."
"You're still together then?"
Johan nodded, his cheeks pinched with happiness.
"Well," Fubuki said, his voice rising with unmistakable bravado, "I would offer to buy the drinks, but I'm afraid I can't do that."
"Oh," Johan said, his gaze shifting to his lap, "Well, of course, you wouldn't have to…" He misinterpreted this as struggle with money and quickly said, "I'd be happy to treat you. After all, you found me, didn't you?"
"No," Fubuki said, his eyes narrowing slightly, "You can't do that either. In fact, I don't think I can stay long. I just wanted to do this." He drew a hand up and slapped the side of Johan's face. "That's for taking Judai from my sister." He turned, and was out the door before Johan could react.
Fubuki strode down the street, his anger passing as quickly as it had come. He headed home, trying desperately to remember how many drinks he'd had.
It had been a hard day for Rei. Two duels, and she'd lost both. She was tired, in desperate need of a vacation.
"Rei!" And apparently things weren't about to improve.
"Judai…" She lost her words and then found them again, in a sheer attempt to save her dignity, "How's Johan?"
His bright eyes grew warm with sympathy and she winced, hating the lot of them for ending up this way. "He's fine. How are you?"
"I'm excellent." She smiled, her eyes widening with the effort.
"How's Manjoume?"
"We're not together any longer," she replied coolly.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that."
"Thank you…" Rei felt her head implode slightly. She wanted to scream at him for being polite to her, for acting as if she was someone else. "And how's Asuka?"
"Oh." He laughed slightly, "I haven't seen her in a long time. Since a couple of months after graduation."
"Shame," Rei replied, "Well, I'll see you around."
"Keep in touch!" Judai called after her, knowing they'd probably never speak again.
