Agent Gibbs stepped out of his favorite coffee shop and took a sip of his coffee as he glanced around. He had never lost the instincts and skills that came with being a Marine. As he started walking down the street, Gibbs noticed a rather rotund man furtively shove a young black-haired boy into an alley. Quickly, but unobtrusively, Gibbs made his way over to the alley and pressed up against the wall to keep from being seen. He got to the alley just in time to hear the sickening sound of an open hand striking flesh.

"Now, maybe that will teach you to stay in your place, boy!" He heard a deep angry voice hiss. "Now, you are just going to stay right here until we are done shopping. I won't have you ruining good people's vacations with your freakish ways!"

As Gibbs peered around the corner he heard a small pitiful voice reply, "Yes, sir, sorry, sir!" He caught sight of the source of the sobbing voice, and felt righteous indignation welling up inside at the tableau in front of him.

There, at the feet of the huge blond man was a small boy. He had black hair, and the biggest green eyes Gibbs had ever seen. But that wasn't what made Gibbs shake in rage. No, it was the sight of a large red handprint clearly outlined on the boy's cheek that made the federal agent angry.

Just then, he heard the boy say something. "But, Uncle Vernon, it wasn't my fault! I don't know what happened!"

At that, the boy's uncle turned beet red and hissed angrily at him. "You know it was your fault! Why else would the store have us kicked out! I know you made the manager think that my Duddikins was stealing! And then, you kept us from finding a cab! Don't tell me it's not your fault, boy!" At the last venom-filled word, the man swiftly kicked the little boy in the head. As Gibbs rushed around the corner and demanded that the man step aside and face the wall, he couldn't help but berate himself for waiting so long to act. After getting the man securely in handcuffs (over the vehement protestations of "I'm a British citizen, you have no right to arrest me!") and turned over to a nearby police officer, Gibbs knelt down beside the scared looking kid huddled on the ground.

"Hey, there. It's OK now, everything's going to be alright. Can you tell me your name?" Agent Gibbs spoke in a soothing voice. "Can you tell me how old you are?"

At each question he just received a terrified glance from emerald eyes bright with unshed tears.

Gibbs slowly extended his hand, wary of scaring the already frightened child even more, and said, "My name is Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Now, I'm sure that your name isn't any worse than that! So, what's your name?"

The thin, messy-haired waif slowly peeked up through his bangs, and when he saw the sincere, gentle expression on his savior's face he hesitantly responded. "Harry. My name's Harry Potter."

Later that day:

Tony came strolling into work late, as usual, when he spotted a little kid sitting on the Boss's lap and playing with Gibb's badge.

"Whoa! Where'd you get the kid, Boss?" Tony exclaimed.

Gibbs glanced up and then, with his trademark half-smile, said, "Oh, the coffee shop was having a special."
