Author's Note: This is just something I came up with when re-reading Rumors. You know of the scene where Will and Elizabeth are at the train station and Will is shot and killed. When I was reading (and crying, I'll admit) over that scene, I thought, 'What if Elizabeth hadn't responded turned to look when her name was called?' So, here's a short one-shot of that scene.

Summary: They called her name, but she didn't look back. AU to the ending of Rumors.

Disclaimer: I own nothing. Anna Godbersen wrote the books. I just own a copy of them. :]

The hustle and bustle of Grand Central was enough for travelers to grow into a quick panic in fear that their train would leave without them. The noise rang through Mr. and Mrs. Keller's ears, but despite the fact that they were both content and happy, they sensed the urgency to make it to their train and to get Elizabeth out of the state with no one's notice except for the Hollands left behind.

Elizabeth kept one hand in Will's while her free hand reached to fix the hood that kept her face hidden from shameless news reporters and people dying to be the one to discover that she was indeed alive. That was the last thing they needed, as the newly wedded couple knew, so they took all precautions—including Elizabeth's hood—to be sure that they could escape New York without trouble.

"Miss Holland, Miss Holland!"

Elizabeth snapped out of her blissful thoughts and started to respond to her name being called. She stopped when she felt Will's grip on her hand tightening, realizing the trouble ahead if she reacted to the stranger's voice. "Don't turn," he said, loud enough so that only she could hear him. "You're Mrs. Keller now."

She only allowed herself to give a small nod in response while they kept walking, squeezing his hand to tell him that she was right behind him and that she wasn't going to let go. The title Miss Holland was dead to her; Mrs. Keller was far more appropriate.

"Miss Holland!"

The same voice seemed to carry more urgency to bring back New York's most loved girl and this time it reached Elizabeth's ears. She swallowed and forced herself to look ahead at the train bound for California waiting for the last of the passengers to arrive. Will swiftly found their correct car, guiding her inside and double checking his pockets to be sure their train tickets were still with them. He didn't waste time to get them to their seats as if they were being stalked by the hunter of Elizabeth Holland.

Only when they were seated comfortably in their seats did Elizabeth dare to look out the window to catch a glimpse at the man who called for her, but it was clear that whoever called her name had given up on getting her attention. She took a deep breath and turned back to her husband, resting her head on his broad shoulder, while the train lurched forward and slowly exited the station. Seeing their matching wedding rings did she realize she no longer needed to look back in the past anymore, that it was alright to look ahead to the future.

After all, she was Mrs. Keller now.

Author's Note 2: Again, this is AU to Rumors, so only in my dreams would Will be alive and return to California with Elizabeth. I've written in the past, but this is the only thing I've actually finished in quite a few years. Sorry this was so short, but it was a short chapter in the book. Also, sorry if this one-shot sucked. I'm still learning and developing my writing skills. Reviews and constructive criticism would be much appreciated! No flames, please. No one likes them.
