a/n: so this story is being completely revamped because I found it way more cringe inducing than I intended so scrapping it and starting over. It's still the same basic premise just changing perspective and trying to flesh it out better. Hope you still enjoy.
The book store clerk stood behind the counter with her elbow on the change mat and her head in her hand. Work was always slow this time of day; only one customer had come in all morning and she hadn't even purchased anything. With a sigh she ran her hand through her shoulder-length hair and straightened. She adjusted the name tag on her shirt that read Eliza and smoothed her outfit a bit. She glanced around the empty shop before she decided to reorganize the shelves for the second time that morning. As she was about to leave the counter, the bell rang above the door and the clerk looked up as a group of teens walked in.
All of them went to the same college, but no one would have ever known because they almost never went to class. They preferred the finer things that college had to offer. They lived to party, get high and have sex. Anything else was a waste of time. At least that's what they thought when they were drunk. When sober they enjoyed movies, arcades and skate parks.
They stopped by the used book store every once in a while on their way to their activity of the day in order to say hi to the clerk, since she also went to the same college and had been friends with the rebellious group since her freshman year. Despite finding most of their antics a tad on the annoying side, she liked when they came to visit since she rarely had any one to talk to in the morning.
"Hey, Liza," a kid named Johnny said as he approached the counter, "I got you a lucky rabbit's foot." He held the furry white object out to her with a sweet smile. She gave the nineteen-year-old a questioning look. Seeing her expression he added, "Don't you know, Friday the thirteenth is the day all the bad stuff that could happen to you does."
She smiled at the boy and laughed as she accepted the gift with a "Thank you". Johnny was always the superstitious type and while most of the group made fun of him for it, Eliza found the boy endearing.
Sean being his usual jackass self chimed in, "I don't see why that thing is so damn lucky I mean it didn't do much for the rabbit."
Leo laughed while Suzie and the clerk glared at Sean. Suzie was the closest friend Eliza had at school. It was Suzie who first introduced the introverted book clerk to the group. She had long dark hair that fell to her waist, fair skin and bright green eyes. Guys always wanted to get to know her but she turned them all down. She had once said that she only had eyes for Tony, but that he didn't seem to notice her.
Tony was the unofficial leader of the group. If someone had a problem they went to him and he almost always had an answer and if he didn't he would find one. Johnny, the youngest in the group, looked up to him more than anyone else. Sean wanted what Tony had. He craved the attention and power. If people weren't paying attention to him he made them pay attention. Everything he said held another meaning hidden somewhere underneath a heavy layer of venomous sarcasm. He always had a scowl on his face and his black hair greased back. The only person that could stand him was Leo, a tall pothead who laughed at the word "pudding".
Zoe and Randy were the only ones that seemed out of place amongst the misfits. Zoe's parents were rich and always bought her what she wanted, but were never there. This resulted in Zoe's messed up childhood and wanna-be-rebellious nature. She still expected everything on a silver platter, but she wanted to make it look like she worked for it. Randy was on the football team and had everything everyone wanted. He was popular, he had a hot, rich girlfriend, and a scholarship for four years. No one really knew why he wanted to hang out with them.
Then Eliza showed up. The only reason these kids talked to her was the fact that Suzie was her roommate. She considered herself the least interesting person in the group. Her light brown hair stopped at my chin and her blue eyes were unnaturally dark which made my pale face seem even paler. A lifelong bookworm, she had decided to major in English literature at Crystal Lake College and she was also the only one from the group that actively attended classes along with Suzie. However, unlike Suzie she disliked the frequent parties, finding them to be just too far outside her comfort zone, but somehow the dark haired beauty always talked her into going and as a result she would always find herself tucked away in the corner of a random dorm or house doing what she could to avoid the intoxicated teens and loud music. And as Suzie approached the counter where she stood she had a feeling she was about to be roped into another unwanted party.
"Hey Liza," Suzie propped her elbow up on the counter. "The guys and I are going up to Crystal Lake for a get together this weekend and I was hoping you'd come so I'd have someone to talk to."
Eliza smiled, knowing that she was actually looking for someone to convince her to Tony. "Is it just going to be us?" she asked and Suzie nodded, "Then yeah I'll come."
"Great! We're leaving tonight around five and we're planning on staying until Sunday. I'll see you back at the dorm."
"Yeah that sounds good," Eliza said with a nod.
Suzie smiled and hopped around the store collecting the various members of the group. As usual Sean and Leo were looking at the latest edition of Playboy. Zoe and Randy were in the sports section playing tonsil hockey. Johnny was in the science fiction section and Tony was in the front of the store waiting by the door. Suzie pushed everyone out the door and waved to Eliza on the way out.
The young girl sighed and let her head rest on the counter. "Great another crazy weekend. Can't wait."
